How to create a DB maintenance plan for DPA 6.0 Server

All,

I was wondering how I could come up with a DB maintenance plan for our newly build DPA 6.0.1 Server. Unlike the 5.8.x versions I am unable to find an option that will allow me to create a DB plan and later apply it to nodes. The Admin guide doesn't talk anything about DB maintenance plans as well. Does anyone around know how to set this up. Any inputs will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Jacob

Hi Jacob,

I would recommend updating to DPA 6.1 (released last Friday) which includes the following default retention periods (equivalent of datamine maintenance plans, except with DPA 6.1 there are default periods so data is automatically cleaned up).

JOB DATA: Kept forever (never deleted)

CONFIGURATION DATA: 365 days

STATUS DATA: 90 days

PERFORMANCE DATA: 30 days

OCCUPANCY DATA: 365 days

The retention period setting is part of the data collection policy. In a new install, the DEFAULT DATA COLLECTION policy is applied to all objects. If you go to POLICIES / DATA COLLECTION POLICIES and edit the DEFAULT DATA COLLECTION POLICY you can edit a collection request (such as Avamar Job Monitor) and expand the RETENTION PERIOD setting and change to match your requirements.

In DPA 6.1, under SYSTEM SETTINGS, there is a new option in the server settings for "Data Deletion" where you can select the schedule for data deletion to run (by default it will perform data deletion between 9am - 5pm everyday).

Regards,

Gareth

Gareth,

Thanks for you reply. I was wondering how I could apply a policy to delete older data from the DB after a particular period. I am glad EMC has introduced this feature in DPA 6.1.

I will try to get our server upgraded to DPA 6.1 in the coming days. Atleast I know where to look for after the upgrade. Thanks again!!
