DPA 6.0.1 Migration ?

Using DPA migration tool 1.2 to migrate a 5.8.5 environment to a new 6.01. Getting an "unable to authenticate against the DPA 5.x server" error when the connection settings are tested. We are running the migration tool from the 5.8 system. In the connection details dialog box, it is looking for a "Logon User" and password. Should this be a local admin account on the systems

Thanks,

Tom

If you're a DPA v5 administrator, you should be able to use the same username / password that you login to DPA v5 with for the migration. If that is not working, once logged into DPA v5 have a look at users and reset the password for the 'administrator' user if you don't know what the current password is and then try that.

Thanks for the info Gareth. We did install the latest 6.1 version, so we are good there. administrator gets me the same error - any way to check what the DPA username is on the current system?

Hi Tom,

Firstly, I would strongly recommend that you download the latest DPA Server binaries from support.emc.com and use those (DPA 6.1.). There were a number of migration enhancements on the server side so the migration should complete quicker and be more stable with the new server version. They are doing a reorg of some of the download files but at the moment it can be confusing to figure out which file you should download, so if you tell me what platform server and agents you have for DPA 6 I'll give you links to the relevant downloads.

Re the migration connection settings, the Logon User and password is the DPA v5 username and password. The default DPA username would be 'administrator'. Also check out the following video on YouTube (can also be download from support.emc.com) which gives an overview of running the migration tool, including some hints and tips on connection issues: EMC Data Protection Advisor 6.0: Migration - YouTube

Regards,

Gareth
