G15, BB and Dell warranty confusion

My 13yo son received the G515 laptop (new) as a birthday gift in September 2023, and is currently going thru an unpleasant experience with Dell and Best Buy. Recently, we learned the motherboard is defective. The laptop was purchased from Best Buy, and much to our surprise/disappointment it is no longer covered by the manufacturer’s warranty because the warranty clock started once it was shipped to BB in October 2022, and not when it was purchased. It sat on the shelf for nearly a year, and now we’re being told it will cost nearly $300 to repair. Neither BB or Dell is willing to stand behind their  product or commitments to their customers. Very dissatisfied!
