Dell Monitor Refund ANZ

Hi, Just seeking clarification around an email I received

"Refund for purchase of a Dell monitor

We recently identified that, due to an error on our part, our web page misrepresented to you the level of savings which you could achieve by purchasing a monitor in conjunction with a desktop, laptop or notebook. That incorrect statement may have encouraged you to purchase the monitor in your online order with us, as described below.

We sincerely apologize for this and would like to make it right by refunding the amount you paid for that monitor.

Your order with Dell

On */**/2021, you placed Order Number (**********) with Dell, which included one or more monitors.

As part of your purchase, you paid $***.** for a Dell monitor. Dell will refund you the amount of your payment for the monitor, plus interest*, for a total refund of $***.** .

If you applied a coupon (or a discount code) during your purchase, its value has been included in the total refund amount.

What you need to do next

Even though we are refunding you the price of the monitor, you do not need to return the monitor to us.

We are not able to process the refund directly to the credit card used to make your purchase. We would process the refund using the Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) method. Please contact the Dell customer care team as soon as possible at anz_care_corporate@Dell.com or 0800 289 335 to share the details of the bank account where you would like the deposit to be made. The Dell Customer care team is trained to handle this refund issue, and they can access your order details and work with you to obtain the information needed to process your refund.

Please do not provide your credit card or bank account details by responding to this email."

I called the contact number I found on the Dell NZ Website 0800 941 121 and was directed through to the customer care team.

Once my order number and name and email were confirmed, I was then told that another customer care team member was handling my refund, and then redirected to another agent. (the call to me, seemed to be a call out of the system, with a dialing tone the second time, before being picked up, rather than a transfer. But perhaps I'm just being paranoid

The new agent, confirmed that there was a refund, and sent me a further email asking for my Bank Details

"Greetings from Dell Customer Care.

In relation to Dell order *********  Dell 24 Monitor - E2420HS For excess payment we have agreed to refund you  $***.**

Please provide bank details to process refund via EFT, You will receive the money in 7 to 8 working days

Customer Bank Name :
Customer Bank A/C owner name  :
Customer Bank A/C #
Customer Bank Code BSB :

Appreciate your early response on this.  You have a wonderful day and thank you for choosing Dell.

Just being on the safe side, and with the prevalence of email scams at the moment. Is this a legit email?

Sincerely

M

Based on my messages with the care team, in private messages this is legit. If it is a phishing email… Dell has a serious in house issue as the scammers have access to the full customer database, sales system and phone systems.

combined with the fact that in NZ them having your bsb and account number doesn’t give them the ability to access anything. I’ve sent my details in to see what happens.

This is almost certainly a phishing attempt.

I also got the same email advising of a refund.

The order number supplied, product purchased and purchase price was all accurate and the 0800 number seems legit (it's listed on the Dell NZ support site).

I haven't gone through the process yet, but am keen to find out whether this is legit or a scam!  Please let me know how you get on.

I just contacted Dell, directly, via online chat and the sales rep I got said that the E-mail I received was legit and not a scam.

Hi MGNZ - I also received the same type of email from Dell advising I am due a refund. Do you mind sharing what happened after you submitted your bank AC details? Legit refund, or a phish?

I found this reference on the Australian Consumer & Competition Commission's (ACCC) website. It gives some credence as to the legitimacy of these refunds. Timing also ties in with date of refund letter received from Dell.

It is Legit. Took about a 7 days for money to come into my account from Dell.

I did say that the original email feels scammy on the several phone calls I had with Dell, and they acknowledged that it can look that way. But I’m not sure how they could correct it…

I actually ended up calling the head office of Dell NZ and spoke to someone here about my concerns. And they confirmed it was safe also.

For any future readers on this topic, I can confirm that the Dell Monitor refund was legitimate. I provided Dell my with Australian bank BSB, and account number on 14 April, and received the refund on 19 April - so about 5 day turnaround. In addition to the original purchase cost, the DEL refund also included interest on that amount.
