i believe they are different things, port-group is a number of ports that share the same asic on the switch, for example on Cisco MDS 9513

9513a1# sh port-resources module 1

Module 1

Available dedicated buffers for global buffer #0 [port-groups 1-4] are 5117

Available dedicated buffers for global buffer #1 [port-groups 5-8] are 5117

Port-Group 1

  Total bandwidth is 12.8 Gbps

Total shared bandwidth is 4.8 Gbps

Allocated dedicated bandwidth is 8.0 Gbps

  --------------------------------------------------------------------

Interfaces in the Port-Group       B2B Credit  Bandwidth  Rate Mode

                                        Buffers     (Gbps)

  --------------------------------------------------------------------

  fc1/1                                      32        8.0  shared

  fc1/2                                     500        8.0  dedicated

  fc1/3                                      32        8.0  shared
