storage edge

Currently we have all storage ports connected to the 9513 core switches. We're running out of cabling to the core and since we're adding a vmax and a vplex i'd like to hear pros and cons of adding a storage edge layer. We can get 5548up for the new edge if we desice to go that route. Thanks in advance.

does 9513 have the FCOE modules ? I've seen some interesting presentation where Cisco would use FCOE ports for ISL between MDS and Nexus (5k) since they are 10G versus 8G. So the VMAX and VPLEX will be connected to 9513 and you would move some hosts to the edge switches ?

ahh..i see what you are trying to do. Do you plan on putting storage edge switch in NPV mode or run as another switch in the fabric ? I can't think of a lot of cons, you will need a boat load of ISL, ports on 9500 running dedicated mode (hopefully spread over multiple cards)

My question is about disconnecting the storage ports from the core switches, dedicating a "Storage Edge" switches and connecting them to the core with a lot of ISLs :

No FCoE on the core, using the 5548up ports in native FC mode

No NPV, and we have plenty of full rate 4Gb ports  on 12 port blades in the 9513.
