IVR Zoning shows too many differences when activating the IVR zoneset

I'm facing the following:

I created 2 IVR zones connecting an HBA to SPA and SPB of a CX4 which is in a different VSAN, but when I want to activate the zoneset the differences show a list of zones which are going to be deleted when the activation is actually performed. I can't figure out why this happened and I'm stuck.

I have 2 options:

1) Recreate the entire IVR zoneset and activate the new zoneset

2) Look which zones are to be deleted and add them, before activating the current IVR zoneset

What option would you prefer and why ? How do I continue without the attached servers loosing connectivity for a brief moment ?

you can do that ..i had somebody on my team accidentally delete a few zones so when he went to activate the config it told him he was about to remove zones that he really did not mean to delete. I manually recreated those zones and put them back in the active zone set and when i selected to activate the config ..it no longer showed those zones as being removed. The system never knew what was going on.

can you compare output of these two:

sh ivr zoneset

and

sh ivr zoneset active

seems like somebody delete ivr zones from the active zoneset and did not activate it.

Thanks. Can I simply add the (to be) removed zones again and activate the zoneset ? Will this be disruptive for the zones that are removed and recreated ?

Thanks, I'll try that, but first I need to investigate in both fabrics what was going on and I'm missing anyzones on each fabric. It looks like I'm not missing much, but I still need to find out. It's keeping me busy today.

for IVR try "sh ivr pending-diff" . As for your other issue, try remove the fabirc in FM and re-discover it again.

And now it seems everything is stable again, but I've noticed another weird thing:

when I open Fabric Manager on 3 different pcs or servers and enter the IVR zoneset config and view the differences, 2 of them agree in what seems to be different and 1 shows me a completely different set of zones to be removed or added. Man, I can't trust FM, can I ?

And a last weird thing I noticed:

I have 2 MDS9222is in each fabric and in the B fabric everything seems stable now and both 9222is agree about the IVR config (no differences when I press "activate"). And then suddenly an hour later, on the same Fabric Manager I didn't add or remove any zones and when I press "activate" these a lot of differences all of a sudden. and the weird thing is that these differences are changes I made way earlier. It looks as if some sort of cache kicks in and wants to replay something I've already done.

Do you know of a CLI command to review the differences between the active zoneset and the new zoneset which will be activated? I can't find it anywhere.

Do you use a FM server or FM on your local pc ? Does this make any difference ?

i use my pc. My MDS 9513s are running 4.2.5 but i upgraded my FM to 5.0.4 because of some performance collection inconsistencies. You could upgrade your FM and see if it resolves your issues.

Delete and rediscover helped! But still... it's a buggy tool if I can't even trust the tool itself. Commandline for the win
