How to stop a Brocade Director switch from constantly rebooting (rolling reboot)

The goal is to stop a Brocade Director switch from constantly rebooting, due to faulty software or hardware.

Once the director stopped and is in “stable state”, further troubleshooting is possible. For example hardware can be replaced and normal fc traffic can resume.
