Decommissioning a Mcdata switch from a Brocade fabric

Hi,

I have a fabric with 3 Brocade[DCX] switches and 2 McData[ED-140] switches operating in McData Open Fabric.

InteropMode: McDATA Open Fabric ( IM3 )
Domain Id offset: 0x60

At this time i would like to decom only one of the two McData switches. Will the below changes suffice?

  1. Identify the ISL’s that are connected to the McData
  2. Once identified Block the port(s)
  3. Blocking the port will remove the switch out of the Fabric. Making the other McData the principal switch.
  4. On the brocade switch run the below CLI commands to confirm the McData is not in the fabric
    1. Islshow
    2. Fabricshow
    3. Cfgshow/cfgactvshow.

Will the above steps suffice? Kindly let me know and thanks for the help.

What is your physical topology. Is it a mesh or a core-edge? If so is the core one of the McData directors or one of the Brocade switches?

Personally I would tend to remove the McData by physically removing the ISLs. I can't remember now if there is a way on the McData interface to persistently disable a port, but if you are going to leave the McData physically connected to the rest of the fabric and the core is a Brocade switch I STRONGLY recommend using a persistent disable to make sure you don't get an unexpected return of the McData to your fabric if something reboots or there is a power outage.
