autoMax2G Port Speed

What's the story behind the port speed "autoMax2G" ?

I read in the Cisco documentation that "when migrating a host only supporting up to 2-Gbps traffic to the 4-Gbps switching modules, use autosensing with 2-Gbps maximum bandwidth."  Is this necessary?

Currently all our port speeds are set to "auto" including the ones that are only running 2-Gbps.  Should I look into changing them all?

I heard that sometimes 2Gb HBAs failed their autonegotiation with the switch port and the port went to 4Gb and the HBA to 2Gb and communication didn’t work (of course).
