Dell SCv3020 no controller IP

Hello There

we have aquired a Dell SCV3020 using our company buy back program.

The Customer who we bought from told us that they did a factory reset using the dsm client.

I am trying to configure the compellent and i am unable to do so.

i have a dhcp network, the IDRAC for each controller get an ip np problem. i can access the idrac of both controllers. but i dont get any ip for controllers. i tried the unisphere discovery but no luck. tried to connect the laptop directly to the controller still did not pick up anything. i dont know what wouuld be the next step here. i can access the centos 7 prompt. but the default password works. any idea would be appreciated. and is there a way i can do a hardware factory reset?

Thanks in advance

So after doing a lot of research. It came out that the latest dsm client has bug and crashes everytime I tried to use the discover utility. So I used this version mentioned in this post  https://www.dell.com/community/Compellent/Dell-Storage-Manager-does-not-work/td-p/8175873 and I was able to successfully discover both controller and finish setting them up. Everything looks good.

I really appreciate your help.

Hi @rfnetwork,

I'm not verse with SCv3020, but I'll try to help. Based on what you wrote, it seems the controller already has an IP on it's management port (assuming you have already done the controller cabling correctly: https://dell.to/3ZHCRVf). Please do confirm all front-end cabling has been completed before you move on to storage discovery.

Try using the Dell Storage Manager https://dell.to/3KZPffs to discover the storage to initialize. Here's a YouTube video on it: https://dell.to/3KVVwsr

So i have connected the serial usb cable and was able to login to the SCOS cli. i have checked the ip and it was not getting any dhcp. so what did is i have assigned an ip address using the controller command and was able to get access to it. did the same thing for the second controller. now when i use the dsm client it tell's me that the storage is not initialized. so when i ran the unisphere discovery utility it is not able to pick up anything. is there a command i can reset the controller fron the SCOS cli?

Hello rfnetwork,

Have you tried - Reset Controller to Factory Default:

Storage Manager 2020 R1 Administrator's Guide

page 297

https://dell.to/3mjB5ez

I would recommend contacting Support directly to have an engineer do this in a remote session with you.

I tried. I can login but I get the "storage center 26xxx requires initial configuration"

So I ran the initial config when it finish I hit on configure this host for dsm access. Then the GUI just disappeared. When I try to login again I get the message above that I need to run the initial config

Hi @rfnetwork,

Since you have CLi access, could you check the OS information, #os show. (page 37: https://dell.to/3Zw7BZJ)

I vaguely remember, about DSM compatibility with the SCOS version. Maybe you can try a lower version to see if it can discover the controller IP that you have set in CLi.
