Dell SC8000, how to boot second when the leader failed from power outage

We had dual-controller Dell SC8000, and after a power outage, we realize that the leader controller fails with hardware issue (irdac), and the second is trying to boot, but in the boot process, it's waitng for the leader controller which is down, and he stops booting stopping here (see image below). And the both are disconnnected to the DSCM. How can i force the second to ignore (to select or waiting for the leader controller which hold shared IP management address) and boot itself ? at this prompt, it does not accept any login, because some services are started. please help.SC8000 boot stuck.PNG

Hi @Larzousse,

This looks to me that the controller has not been set up yet. Was this storage system been configured with dual controller setup? If the deployment done right, there isn't any further configuration needed to allow it to take over, it is done automatically by the storage which is failover.

Hi Joey, thanks for your feedback. YES! it was setup and configured in dual-controller since many years and was in production. As the leader failed (idrac hardware issue) so the peer try to start but in the boot process, he need the laeder, if don't find it out, boot stuck at this stage image. Let me give you a normal boot process image, you will compare them. You realize that, the leader is a key in a dual boot process, because at the power outage occured, they shutdown at same time, that's why the failover has not happened.Normal SCOS boot.jpeg

The above image is the normal boot process for SC8000 primary site. No login is accepted to the first image, i think as some services have not started, no login is accepted. I tried actual and default logins, but nothing

Looks like your controller enter into safe mode.  If you didnt powe off or reset another controller, the other controller will work as usual. However If you reseat or power off the workable controler, It will not boot into normal mode. Because this controller is waiting for the leader controler. If you want to the only one controller boot up, you should ignore the leader selection.  If you need more support, let me know.

Hello everyone,
I'm having exactly the same issue today.
have you found a solution?
Is it possible to tell the active controller not to wait for the other?
By using the rs232? by connecting via idrac?
Thanks in advance for your feedback

regards

Hello, I found some information as below.

to force the second controller to boot and ignore the leader controller, you can try the following steps:

  1. Power off the entire SC8000 storage array.
  2. Power on the storage array and wait for the boot process to start.
  3. During the boot process, you should see a prompt that allows you to interrupt the boot sequence. Press the appropriate key to interrupt the boot process (e.g., F2 or Esc).
  4. Once you have interrupted the boot process, you should see a menu with various options. Look for an option that allows you to select the boot controller or change the boot order.
  5. Select the second controller as the boot controller or change the boot order to prioritize the second controller.
  6. Save the changes and exit the menu. The storage array should now boot using the second controller as the leader.
  7. Wait for the boot process to complete and verify that the second controller is functioning properly.
  8. If necessary, reconnect the storage array to the DSCM to restore the shared IP management address.

Hope that helps!
