Replace faulted disk in DPE?

I have an AX-4 with a faulted disk.  It's Enlcosure 0, Disk 2 (10k, 146gb), which is in the Disk Processor Enclosure.  I have a replacement drive (10k, 300gb) for the SAN, but can I use it to replace the DPE disk?  There are 4 disks on the DPE that have a 'do not remove' graphic, thus my worry.

Here is my event log:

2015/05/25 00:45:15 0x720f The storage system has disabled its write cache, most likely because of a hardware issue.
2015/05/25 00:45:09 0x7400 There are disk drives in this storage system that are not working properly. Enclosure 0 Disk 2

Yes, Vault Drive does contain Vault/FLARE/System LUNs but they are not a part of user LUNs which resides on user created RAID Groups. Vault LUN helps CLARiiON to run and any impact caused by user LUNs created on the Vault Drive directly and adversely impact the performance of the entire array.

In a Gist: Yes, you can replace the 146GB disk with 300GB Disk but try not to create any high IO Intensive LUN on it, if you want to avoid Poor Performance Issue.

You may want to check more on Vault Disk Contents: CLARiiON VAULT Disk Contents and Vaulting Operations

Is that because of the different capacity? (300 vs 146?).  I've been told that the 146gb drives are no longer supported/made.  We're unable to get them from our vendor (any vendor).  There are a few 146gb drives used in the DAE, but they're all in use.

You can but I don't advise it. You will be wasting the capacity if you don't use the Space and you will be impacting the Performance if you create IO Intensive user LUNs on the Vault Disks.

You can go with the higher capacity disk drive that's fine but try not to make it a part of a user LUN which has IO Utilization. It will degrade your arrays performance.

Are the vault drives not in a RAID array?  Do I have to create something on the drive after replacing it?  I was just under the impression that it would rebuild itself.

I think I understand.  I checked and this disk is not assigned to any Disk Pools.  So, it looks like it's just used for Vault/FLARE.  I won't be adding any new LUNs to this SAN as it's being decommissioned at the end of the year.

It certainly should rebuild automatically. What Ankit is stating that it is always best to use same size/speed drives in a RAID Group or Pool, for consistent performance.

If you have User LUNs (not System/Flare) using the vault drives then this can be a consideration. If there's no user LUNs on them, it's less of an issue.
