How to delete an Offline Pool in the Clariion CX4

Hello,

we are about decommission our old Clariion CX4-240

We wanted wipe all the hard disks and have organize them in several pools.

After Pool initializing some disks gone broken, two pools became offline, and we can not delete them.

There is no productive date what we must recover. We just want delete the pools and reorganize them.

How can an offline Pool be deleted?

Thank You!

Have you tried to replace the failed disks? This would be difficult if you do not know how the disks are arranged within each Pool. In a Pool the disks are organized into private raid groups - usually in Raid 5 (4+1). If one disk in a private raid group failed, then you should be able to replace that disk with an un-used disk if it is the same model/type. If more than one disk has failed within a single private raid group, then the raid group is considered as double faulted and can not be fixed (unless the Raid Type is Raid 6).

Generally a pool off-line is an EMC Support activity and is not appropriate for this Forum. You'll need to contact EMC Support (or a Partner that is authorized for this type of service).

Hi Glen,

yes, we have already replaced few of the failed disks, but we have no more spare disks of this type and capacity.

The Clariion should be decommissioned an have no EMC Support.

So we just need to delete the pools and reorganize them.

There is a way to delete a Pool (I'm not qualified to do that), but you will need from EMC support to do that as this involves engaging engineering.

I am convinced that there is a way, but as said, the machine is already out of the support
