CX4-120 without vault drives

Hello,

We recently purchased a CX4-120 SP with 2 DAEs (full od disks) from a second hand server equipment retailer. The purpose is to set up a test system with replicated customer environment.

However, since this wasn't a complete setup (SP and DAEs were sold separately), I suspect that we're missing vault disks, because there are no stickers present in any of the disks in the enclosure.

If that's true - do we even have a chance to get this system running?

We connected all the cables as per EMC manual, but I'm not able to connect to the SP using mini DB9 -> DB9 cable and PPP connection (connection is also configured according to manual). I got Error 777: The connection attempt failed because the modem (or other connecting device) on the remote computer is out of order.

So, is it even possible to establish a PPP connection and get some response from SP if there are no vault disks in the enclosure (as far as I understood, these disks contain a storage OS, so SP cannot even boot without them - am I right)?

Thanks in advance.

Igor

Thanks for the info. I was affraid of that. Will try to reach EMC provider in my area (Croatia). In the meantime, we're contacting the retailer we purchased this system from to see if they are able to get the second hand vault disks.

You have 0.0% chance of booting the SP without vault disks.  These are the only source of storage OS for the SPs. Without working vault disks, you cannot boot the SP nor restore any functionality to the array.

Your best bet is to reach out to an EMC provider in your region and see about purchasing a set for them.  Some EMC-authorized providers will do a time-and-materials deal to get the system bootable on salvaged drives from other systems - it might be a cheaper alternative.

Let us know if that helps!

On cx4 drivea 0_0_0 thru 0_0_4 are vault drives. If you could verify the status of these on your system
