Appsync with VPLEX backend and RP replication
Hello,
IHAC having VPLEX with VNX back end, with Volume presented to the host from VPLEX. RP is integrated with VPLEX. I checked the documentation but I did not find any information about VPLEX with Appsync. So I need your advise to know either if Appsync support VPLEX as back end or no.

Only with the ViPR controller....not as stand-alone integration as I understand it today.

VPELX will be supported with the XtremIO backend, with the June 24th release of AppSync 3.0. Support with VNX behind VPLEX will be coming by the first half of 2017, but hopefully earlier.

Hi schifa, can you clarify this a little? We also have VPLEX with ViPR Controller, RPs and VNX in VPLEX Background. Is it really necessary for appsync, to discover all the way down to the VNX?
Maybe s.o. have another storage behind the VPLEX. Will this be a Scenario which is never covered by appsync?
Are we able to do a MSSQL clone (or a clone on VPLEX Level) with appsync, if we have the ViPR Controller active?
emc sold us appsync as a solution for this, but now the solution is done with a Scripting Framework (which does exactly do what the appsyc does). We hat replication Manager before, which worked fine in our older Scenario (which was VNX / RP only w.o. vplex). I don't want to replace the replication Manager with a Scripting engine.
We also have the VMWare Level, which also adds complexity for this.
Anyone here from emc can tell, which will be the expected release date for appsync supporting VNX behind VPLEX?
Kind regards
Manuel

Manuel,
Yes, it matters at the array level, because that is where the LUNs are replicated. It is how AppSync creates a snapshot. VNX behind VPLEX is not within a time frame at this time. It is on the roadmap, but I do not have an estimation of support.
There is no feature to create a clone on VPLEX level with AppSync, with, or without, ViPR. AppSync always maps the device to the backend storage, as that is where the data lives, and is replicated.
