AppSync silver/gold plan

I am looking for steps to implement silver or gold service plan for Exchange backup.

Do we have to have RecoveryPoint appliance to implement the silver or gold plan?

What are you trying to achieve?

The Gold and Silver server plans are designed for RecoverPoint or VNX Replicator. The silver plan also allows for SRDF.

We like to have copy of the backup at the DR site.

The only way to create remote array copies is through a "repurposing" workflow, and that is only supported with SQL and Oracle, and requires either RecoverPoint or SRDF.

My recommendation for you is to utilize Exchange DAG and a local backup program at the remote site.

Thank you for the information.

If we do not need long term retention then we can go with AppSync and RecoveryPoint for bookmark. This will facilate us to recover the Exchange DB?

You are able to create remote bookmarks, as the video depicts, but array based copies...no. The bookmarks are kept as long as there is journal space, so it is ideal to size appropriately. For long term retention, I believe it is possible to manually create a copy by enabling image access, and using the Unisphere to create the copy. I have personally never done this, but it is not something AppSync can do with Exchange. AppSync can only do this with SQL and Oracle today, through what is called a "repurposing" workflow. You create bookmarks through AppSync's "service plan" workflow.

If all you need is a bookmark, however, AppSync can certainly provide the application consistency you desire with Exchange, by using the silver or gold service plans.

Utilizing AppSync with RecoverPoint for Microsoft Exchange, provides the ability to recover from a number of disaster type scenarios. AppSync provides the ability to create application consistent bookmarks, which should be mounted and validated with the Exchange management tools, as depicted in the User and Administration guide.
