x17 R2, 240 watt vs 330 watt AC adapter

Hello, I recently purchased an Alienware x17 R2. This machine came with a 240 watt AC adapter. When performing video upscaling work, this machine runs fine but the battery loses charge. After 6 hours or so, the battery is no longer fully charged but at 80 – 90 percent. When the machine is not doing work (sitting idle) or turned off, the battery charges normally to 100 percent.

By way of comparison, I previously purchased an x17 R2. This machine came with a 330 watt slim AC adapter. The systems have an identical CPU; only the video cards are different (‘HW3 has a 3070 Ti while ‘RV3 has a 3080). This machine with the 330 watt slim AC adapter, stays fully charged under similar use (video upscaling work). I like the new laptop which performs nicely, virtually identically to other one. I am concerned about the longevity of the battery with the 240 watt adapter, given that the computer appears to need to supplement with battery power to maintain performance.

Would it be possible to exchange the 240 watt adapter for a 330 watt adapter, for the difference in price between a 330 watt adapter and a 240 watt adapter? I would prefer to maintain the battery at full charge and have the computer capable of running at full performance using the AC adapter alone. I should add that the 240 watt adapter gets hot to the touch; the 330 watt adapter gets warm, but not as hot at the 240 watt adapter. Both x17 R2 systems listed above were purchased through Dell Outlet.

Thanks!

* No, that is not possible. You will have to purchase the 330W AC power adapter from the x17 R2 Parts & Repairs page.
