18 R1, fan kicks in instantly
My son is playing the game "tabs" in Xbox pc app. On Alienware 18.
It's not a Graphic intensive game.
However, immediately after the game starts, the fan kicks in and runs continuously.
After exiting the game, the fan stops.
Do you know if it's normal. My older laptop Alienware 17r3 did not make this much noise.

update: i have found a button on F1 which says performance mode was pressed on. I did press it and the selection did disappear on the button.
after which the fan running for every action is now resolved. thanks for all your response.

It would be best to use a temperature monitor to see if it's getting hot quickly after opening the game. Some basic ones which are easy to use are Core Temp and GPU Temp. The 18 is quite an old laptop now and the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU's would be well past it's best and should be replaced. This is a pretty big job on the AW18 though and I wouldn't suggest doing it unless you have some decent skills in tearing apart laptops.
The other thing it could be is Dell Support Assist. This program causes a few weird glitches in these older systems which includes some fan issues. If you go to 'Uninstall a Program', scroll down and find any programs that mention Support Assist and delete them all.

The 18 R1 shipped 11 years ago in July 2013. So yes, mattyb3 was correct. You must be thinking of the later "m" models =
