since i am sort of showing you were dell is not offering choices for the consumer,,but just jamming things down you throat.,,,,i was interested in a high end system with an amd cpu,,,i hate intel....i found the studio 7100,,,with a amd 1055 x6 amd cpu.....not sure if you can say the studio 7100 is high end, but its the best you can get with this amd cpu....and then what does dell do...they have and embedded video chipset,,,no pice slot for video cards.....i thought, my god...what has gone wrong with dell......whoever makes these decisions ought to be fired.

well..if you have just the aurora, and not the alx....you could have a p55 chipset of x-58 chipset.....if you got the i3 or i5-, you have  p55 chipset.....and i7 cpu, x58chipset

not sure if dell is using proprietary, but i suspect they are....look inside your case...if  their is no name on the motherboard,  such as asus, msi,,,,but just dell.....then you have a proprietary board.

you can go to intel and download the chipsets,,,but i would just download them from the dell site......dell provides you with chipset drivers, and should be good to go.

what i don,t understand about dell, is that they don,t offer you choices as some other manufactuers do...i know of one..they let you choose betweeen 12 motherboards, a dozen cpus,,,,,,delll does not ever offer the very popular i7-860 in the alienware lineup.....dell just does not want to offer choices...which is somewhat contributing to their decline among enthusiasts...

why are you trolling this forum complaining about dell. Do you even have an alienware? every post i read from you is complaining about alienware yet you just continue to stick around..

Just in case the answer to OP got lost in all of that ...

There's a couple of different MB (with different Intel Chipsets) used in the Aurora. The easiest way to get the proper chipset drivers for yours is to go to support.dell.com, enter your Service Tag, and the correct file will be available for download.

ronss,

It comes down to expense for Dell. Why would we waste the time and money validating those CPUs when only 2% of our customer base will buy it? That's just throwing money away.
