hdmi input question

This is a presales question.  I can see that some of the Alienware laptops support HDMI input, and when I have seen the feature used, the laptop was connected to another computer via an HDMI cable or via a Microsoft Wireless Display HDMI Adapter.  The Alienware laptop became something like a presentation device for the other computer, with a copy of that computer's screen being displayed.  The Alienware keyboard and mouse looked to be inoperative until the sending machine stopped sending.  Is that true?  Is there a way to interrupt the process from the machine doing the displaying?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Unfortunately, I don't believe that is possible. The other computer becomes a monitor, disabling all other functions.

Hello,

I don’t fully understand your question. Yes, the Alienware laptops come with an HDMI port. Yes, you can connect an external monitor or a TV and project the image from the laptop to the external device. You can also adjust if you want to mirror the image on both devices or if you want it to display only in one. I hope that answers your question.

I am asking if there is a way to control any of the process from the Alienware machine that is acting as the secondary display.  If the Alienware laptop is running and I plug a cable into the HDMI-in port, as soon as I set the "sending computer" to switch to HDMI output, the Alienware laptop screen is replaced with the image from the sending machine. As far as I can tell, the Alienware laptop's keyboard and mouse become inoperative.  I am looking for a way to terminate the process or otherwise affect the process from the Alienware laptop.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Just to confirm, you want to use your Alienware laptop's LCD as a secondary display of another computer but you still want to control the Alienware system with your mouse and keyboard at the same time, is that correct?

Yes.  I want to find out if that is possible.  I would like to interrupt the process from the Alienware laptop.
