Alienware Aurora R5, memory upgrade issues with 4x8GB PNY Anarchy

My new Alienware Aurora R5 is awesome in so many ways. However, the 16GB of RAM that came with it is not enough, so the folks at Best Buy assured me that 4x8GB PNY Anarchy DDR4 (2400MHz, CL15, 1.2V) would work fine. But it doesn't -- after 5-10 mimutes, locks up, eventually reboots itself.

Ran Memtest+ for a couple days, zero errors. Tried re-seating memory, no luck. It actually runs at 2133MHz on this mobo, but that doesn't bother me. I'd run even a bit slower if it helped. Or faster! But I don't have a K, so not many tweaking options in the BIOS.

Is this memory just not "compatible" with my CPU/mobo, and why not... thanks.

Yes, I did, in two other comparable motherboards with no issues. I suspect it might be because I bought 2 of 2x8, and the lot numbers were wildly different? Should I have bought 4x8 in a single pack (if I can find such a thing in this brand)?

That memory is rated at 2400 but it runs at 2133 (per Memtest+, the BIOS, and CPU-Z). That doesn't bother me, but would the memory become LESS stable running at a lower clock? I can't change any memory settings or timings since the CPU is not a Z. Not sure if that would help here though.

For now I put back the single 16GB stick (Hynix) and everything is fine. If I could buy another 16GB Hynix I would have, but it's not a common thing on retail memory web sites...

Thank you for your continued support.

Hi,

Have you by any chance tested the RAM with another system to make sure it functions properly?

Just to confirm, you bought 2 of 2x8 and you kept the 16GB inside, is that correct?

My box came with a single 16gb stick, replaced it with 4x8gb. After crashing all day, reseating all sticks, no luck. Put original single 16gb stick back in, it's 100% stable again. But I need to get to 32gb total.

Ok, thank you for confirming this. It does sound like a compatibility issue with the RAM sticks. From what I understand, not all of the modules are the same correct?

Yes, all are same size, same speed, all 8 GB. Ran Memtest86+ for over a day, all tests passed. Speed as rated on the RAM itself was 2400, but BIOS and CPU-Z reports 2133.

I have the same problem... 2 X 8GB PNY Anarchy DIMM4, Aurora crashes about once every 20 minutes with random Windows 10 Stop messages. Put the original 2 X 4GB DIMMs in and no problems. Why does the PNY Anarchy NOT work?!?

They appear to meet the requirements, but since you did not buy the RAM from us, we cannot replace them or test them in any way. Perhaps, you can exchange them for another type of RAM by contacting the retailer.
