Aurora R9, has 8X PCIe slots?

After finding this out they want a 600 dollar restocking fee to return it plus shipping!

What are my options?? Strip down my machine day 1 and save money? I will even have to pay for another copy of Windows to do this?

I would much rather fix their horrible design then give them a free 600 dollars!

Can someone recommend an appropriate top of the line motherboard and case to fix this mess? I need a functioning performance system that works properly and allows for 2080 RTX Ti SLI with a i9-9900 KS processor and 2933 MHZ ram.

WOW! Thank you for this Dell630i!! I was feeling sick to my stomach but after seeing these parts I am feeling a little better.

I am not a tech could you verify this motherboard works with this 2933 ram and i9-9900 ks chip please.

I guess motherboards went way up in price since my last build! But it looks like it is worth it!

That case holds 2 separate complete systems? I will need 2 seperate power supplies to setup a dual system? Wild! It is very nice!

I will need a 1000 watt power supply for 2080 RTX Ti SLI? Recommendation please? (The last 2 were amazing)

Any other components you can suggest? Probably need a stand alone water cooling system? Is the Aurora R9 water cooling system part of the case?

Thank you very much for the help.

This is my parts list lol sigh..

LOL nice @Anonymous , but you should also mention that the MSI motherboard you linked isn't compatible with the 9900ks.  I wanted to insert an emoticon here but I can't figure out how to do it with this limited android setting.

When there are two x16 slots, the top x16 lane would usually use the 16 pcie lanes direct to the CPU.  In addition to the CPU's pcie lanes, the z370 chipset supplies up to an additional 24 more PCIE lanes (so 40 total).  Those would usually power the bottom x16 plus whatever additional pcie slots are on the motherboard.

It's amazing @BubbyDog even managed to snag a system that comes with 9900KS. There's no decently priced boxed retail version currently. I'm just helping a friend look for one.

Anyway, you've gone down the wrong path for 9900KS + 2080 Ti SLI. The Aurora chassis isn't made for this so one of those mega case like what @Anonymous says good morning to everyday should be a start point. Here are my suggestions for a souped up system like this assuming you're keeping your 9900KS, 1x 2080 Ti, RAM and storage devices that shipped with your system:

Case - Anything @Anonymous suggests because if it's big enough for him, it's big enough for anybody.

Motherboard - https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/MEG-Z390-GODLIKE or https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-MAXIMUS-XI-FORMULA/

EDIT: I just pasted the most expensive Z390 from 2 main vendors. Going one level down doesn't hurt much and you pay about 1/3 the price. FYI, my MEG ACE is second to the MEG GODLIKE and I got it for $180 after rebate.

Second Graphics Card for SLI - https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/rtx-2080-ti/

PSU - https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Power-Supply-Units/axi-series-config/p/CP-9020087-NA

Cooling: https://www.nzxt.com/product-overview/kraken - Get 1x 360mm for CPU, and 2x 240mm for each GPU.

Cooling: https://www.nzxt.com/products/kraken-g12-white - Get 2x to slap on the 240mm AIO on each of your 250W TDP nuclear plants by NVIDIA.

Cables (in case you don't like ugly cables from PSU) - https://cablemod.com/

Tip:

For NVLINK, lurk around EVGA's B-stock page every Wednesday. You can get a nice EVGA NVLINK bridge for ~$20. It's B-stock but hey, it's just a bridge.

For Win10, Egg shop gives out "promos" every week or two. $95-$99 pre-tax should be what you expect to pay.

I would've given you a long lecture on SLI but with NVIDIA cancelling announcement on 30x0 Ampere series, 2080 Ti SLI is probably the best money can buy now. BUT...

You have in your hands a reference board 2080 Ti. It's not the least but it isn't the best too. There are 2 tiers of custom PCB 2080 Ti above: the FTW3/ Strix OC class, and the K|NGP|N/ Galax unlimited class. So if you really need the craziest ultra setting out there: 2x K|NGP|Ns. Do it. You might even get free t-shirt from EVGA.

I thought the 9900KS for 9th gen, was like the 8086K for 8th gen.  A limited production chip.  So once the retail stock is sold, the only remaining option to pay the flipper surcharge.

click Paint

lick rotate.

why make this hard.

post the exact motherboard full DELL p/n of board first or answers can be very wrong.

once we remove all this silly plastic junk we see there is a real case inside and wild PSU. who knows what.

the case is  metal faraday cage, for RFI blockage.

nobody on the internet Google has deeper facts for sure on MOBO REAL SPEC.

Hi guys,

I got my Aurora R9 today. First thing I did was benchmark it with 3DMark from Steam to compare it to my 2017 Alienware Area 51 PC

My old PC specs: Area 51 i9-9700x 32gb ram Sli 1080 GTX Ti 11 GB cards

It did horribly. My three plus year old Area51 gets a 16,152 score and the new Alienware gets a 12800.

I saw some menu in the Alienware command center where it has overclock 1 and 2 but it will not let me select either one. My A51 is not overclocked...

What is going on with this thing! Is there a way to set it to 5gz which it was advertised at? At this point I might as well return it and eat the 600 restocking fee.... Very bad numbers!

@BubbyDog

If you could, please share your 3Dmark results URL so that we can see what's going on with the system. 3Dmark score is a composite of CPU and GPU so will need to see if both are punching up to its class.

As for the OC setting in AWCC, could you first go to the BIOS to see if you're allowed to set the OC from there? Usually that precedes AWCC allowing you to select OC1/OC2 profiles.

Thank you very much all, especially GTS81 and Dell 630i for the in depth review of my options.

I was blown away by the Obsidian 1000D but I also like the Cosmos due to the fact that it would probably fit on my desk better and it looks so cool!

I guess I really screwed up thinking I would have a top of the line gaming system if I purchased a new Alienware system with all the upgraded options. I pictured adding a 2nd 2080 and I would be there. It used to be like that, I now know better and after spending 2 days trying to catch up on current equipment and products, I am thinking the only part of this Aurora R9 PC that is top of the line performance wise is probably the 9900KS CPU.

I guess my best option is to return it for a 15% stocking fee and eat the difference. Then purchase quality parts that will function correctly together and build a real machine. Nothing here really worth salvaging besides the CPU and for $3800+...

Just want to say my area 51 purchased in Sept 17 has been a great machine still runs perfect, my Alienware i7 5930k from 2015 and my Alienware 34 Gsync monitor has worked very well also. Really liked the A51 case...

I was able to set it for Overclock 2 and I turned off Gsync and got this higher 12,700 score.

*Wait it was actually 100 lower when overclocked !

Still way behind..

I will try turning off SLI in my Area 51 and see what it gets with 1 video card running.

I use my main PC for intensive Fusion 360 design, cam, rendering for CNC work and I am very competitive online in fps and Battle royal games such as the new Warzone and also Dota..

Presumably the faster the video and processor the better for my needs but I also want reliability and don't want to OC to the point of deteriorating longevity.

If you would not mind helping me pick out the best parts for a system I would very much appreciate it. I would like to build with the Cosmos case unless you know of a better one lol. Start with a barebones 64GB single top of the line 2080 and I will add a second one later when I can afford it.. Presumably per @r72019 you can't get a ks processor..

Hopefully the end result is a significant improvement over my 3.5 year old Area 51 that is smashing this R9 Aurora lol..

I just downloaded the newest Nvidia drivers on my A51 and all of a sudden my Nvidia control panel is gone..

Good times, Must be a bug..

Thank you
