Aurora R8, RTX 4080 Super compatble?

Alienware Aurora R8

Alienware Aurora R8

Hello, I have recently gotten into sim racing and started to use vr. My R8 has a 2080 super and an i7 9700k but I am unable to run much more than low graphics in vr. I was wondering if I could run a new 4080 super with my pc? I know the cpu will bottleneck it and I plan to upgrade it soon but I would like to know if a 4080 super would be compatible and fit inside my R8? Could I, and would it be better, to just buy a new case and try to put everything inside that? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well, you are limited to upgrade abilities on that CPU. There's also the power requirements of the 4080 card to consider.

R8 CPU support

Power Supply R8

4080 super requires a minimum of 750 Watt and 3 x PCIe 8 PIN cables.

You might be much better off just purchasing a complete new system than trying to upgrade to a 4080, because by the time you have this R8 upgraded it's more cost effective to just purchase a new system. Unless you are stuck to the case or want a "project".

The maximum you can have is an i9 9900K CPU.
I recommend a 1000W PSU if you don't have one.
And I recommend the MSI RTX 4070TI super 16GB DUAL fan
or Asus Noctua RTX 4080 16GB DUAL fan.

Even the Dell OEM RTX 4080 is 12" x 4.8" x 2". You would have to remove your front intake fan. There are some thinner fans, though. The ASUS GeForce RTX 4080 Noctua is 12.2 x 5.7 x 3.45 inches. It has to be 10.5 inches to fit with your current fan. I have an R8 I bought years ago with 2 OEM 3090. I can say this to everyone talking about bottlenecking. I have seen an Aurora R5 With an RTX 4070Ti using a GPU extension cable with an old i7-6700 and over ten games running at max setting 1440p, and everyone ran great. Besides the most CPU-demanding games, even those ran at over 60fps 99% of the time. I have also seen the same setup done on an Aurora R8 with an RTX4090, the same extension cable with an i9-9900k vs the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X on over ten different games at 4k max setting only 3 saw a difference in performance by any margin of error. I'm talking 3 to 4 frames out of 7 of 10 games. Only three games had a frame rate increase of 20 fps, and I'm not talking about 58 Fps vs 78 Fps. I'm talking about 160fps vs 140fps only on three games. This is also one system running DDR5 Vs the i9-9900k DDR4. You will only see a significant difference if you drop down to 1080p, but why are you using a 4080 or 4090 to play in 1080p? The Ryzen 9 7950X is way better at content creation and multi-tasking, such as gaming and streaming. Still, this talk of bottlenecking for just gaming is just consumers wanting the latest and greatest, which is precisely what's wrong with the market now. I am also not a Dell supporter because they are all designed to drain your money by being made only compatible with OEM GPUs and in-house parts. The truth is that bottlenecking is real, but you can not tell the difference between 250 and 225 frames in these high-frame situations. To answer your question, the 4080 will run in that system. You will see some bottleneck, but unless you can tell you are not getting 132fps, you're only getting 123fps. I wouldn't worry too much. Some games require more cores, but it's not what these people are making it out to be. You will see a substantial increase in Fps, but I do not recommend Dell take the time to build your PC if you ever upgrade. If that's not possible, consider other prebuilds that offer more freedom so Dell's proprietary parts do not lock you in.

@Vanadiel Yeah that’s what I was thinking. It’s got an 850w power supply and I like the look of the case but I guess I would be better off with a new pc. I just wanted to see if I could upgrade mine and skip the hassle of trying to sell it. I also opened the case and there only seemed to be 280mm of space for a graphics card and I believe the 4080 super is bigger than that.

I posted on here a little while ago that I was wondering if a 4080 super would work well with my R8. People chimed in saying that there would be too much bottlenecking and that I should just build a new pc, so after new consideration I decided to put a 4070 super in my system. I am running vr for sim racing and since it is very graphic intensive I didn’t think the bottlenecking would be that bad. I bought the Asus dual 4070 super as that was one of the only ones that would fit. I just put it in today and I am very impressed. My graphics performance is up by about 70%. The specs of my R8 used to be a 2080 super with an Intel 9700k. If anyone else has the same pc I would recommend this upgrade as the Asus dual 4070 super is also an exact perfect fit. It is extremely tight but I don’t have to remove the metal triangle like I have seen others do. Sorry that the pictures of the benchmark are bad but that is from time spy in 3D Mark.
