Aurora R16 have arrived
So the new R16's have arrived, promising better cooling, performance because they once again listened to gamers. We shall see because from the limited pics, the R16 looks like the R15, R14, R13 chassis' in a new outer shell. Each of the configs only come with Non-OC'd CPU's. Looking forward to the reviews.

R16 review: Review
Pros
Smaller chassis than previous versions
Lots of ports on the front
Decent pricing for pre-built market
Cons
Still using proprietary motherboard and server-style power supply
Fans can run loud while gaming
Chassis design may be too safe for some

I'm underwhelmed. 4070 GPU, 1000W PSU, no other options for GPU or PSU at this point. Those two alone would make this a no-go for me.

The team and management of ALIENWARE can be really ashamed of what they presented today, it's one big bad joke!
Sales of this joke R16 will be catastrophic! And someone will have to bear the responsibility!

Not much frontal air intake. Looks like it's advertised for a child "back to School" gaming computer not an adult gaming rig. Definitely waiting for real reviews I wonder if Steve will take this one in.

It's the same chassis though as the R13, just a different shell surrounding the chassis albeit smaller.
Needs a 360 AIO, look how hot the R15 CPU runs compared to counterpart pre-builds. Disappointing

And no memory xmp support ... without cryotech and a with a nice RTX3050...
For me it's a nice XPS Desktop with less power without K CPU

You don't really need Cryo-Tek with just the 65 watt processor options. Eventually they are offering the RTX 4080 . . . no RTX 4090. Is this what y'all had in mind when you said "fix the thermal problems"?

2 fans intake at the front with proper venting at the front so air intake is not smothered would go a long way.
Then a collaboration with Noctua for cooling fans would even go a longer way.
And then getting away from the OEM factor for the motherboard, and using the original socket mounting mechanism instead of the OEM solution, would have been very good.
Instead it's yet another OEM design that has limited upgradability and is going to cause issues just for changing a fan, or BIOS issues, or memory support issues, PSU issues. etc...
And the real interesting part is that the average purchaser likely is not going to care much about the OEM design and overall design decisions, the more advanced users will. So it makes perfect sense to move away from OEM designs because it simply would please both the ones that care, and those that do not.

It is exactly the same metal box that housed the R13 upwards models minus the plastic. The rear is exactly the same with the 4 extra holes they still can't be bothered with hiding when it was an XPS box, and the hinged door give it away.
A quick glance at the service manual also tells you it is again full of XPS parts but Dell now have an answer, there no longer called proprotitry parts, there now called replaceable fuse units.
Dell still won't sell you any spare part you need but documentation is everything.
The Dell fan club can big it up all they like. It is another dogs dinner that will not fool anyone who reviews gaming PC's.
They obviously were not selling enough of the pretend high end gaming version, hence there dive to the bottom yet again with an XPS PC with enough added frills to fool enough to buy it.
Total joke they have gone down this route. This may I fear be the last Alienware PC you see.

Moving away from OEM designs cost $$$. It is a business decision to offer a product for the masses, and not the advanced gamer or boutique hardware enthusiast. Recent technology advances make that possible. The i9-13900F 65 watt processor @ 5.50 GHz with an RTX 4080 and DDR5 RAM (no XMP) is more than sufficient to run any game at high resolution. Plug it in & play. This is their market . . . 95% would never consider changing a fan, and 70% are too afraid to open a side panel. The 1% that are true gaming/hardware enthusiasts will come here and sound off about what could have been . . . if profits were not the driving force (which I completely understand).

Time will tell how well this works. I have my own ideas about that.

You are talking about console gamers here I think...

That makes me wonder if that is why the Alienware consoles were shelved, because the Alienware desktops were actually the plug and play consoles.
Interesting.
