Dell XPS 15 9500 4K screen stylus?

Hi,

Anyone knows which stylus is compatible with the new Dell XPS 15 9500 4K screen? Should I stick to Dell pens or are there third party brands?

Just about any standard capacitive stylus should work (example linked below).  I don't think you'll find this model has a pressure-sensitive digitizer, so it won't support an active pen (for that, you'd need the older 9575 model, as Dell hasn't released a 2-in-1 digitizer version of the newer XPS 9500 model).

Your laptop does not support the newer stylus by Dell.

You will have to test the older Pens from Dell.

Your version of the laptop is not supported by the Dell Active pens.

Wait until Dell releases newer pens for your series of laptops.

Hello,

I see that your system service has been completed, I see that the part was replaced and would like to know if the system is working fine now.
Please let us know if you need any help, we will be glad to assist you.

Hello,

Thanks for the response, and just to make sure that I understand.  Are you saying that the Dell stylus will not work with the XPS 15 9500, but a stylus like the AmazonBasics stylus will? Thanks.

That is correct... I purchase the PN579X  (~$100) as I had read on another blog that it would work... it did not... I just hope Dell comes out with a pen that works for the XPS 15 9500 series soon

The basic iPad and Apple-Pencil are very nice together and not that much money.

The issue is not a matter of coming out with another stylus -- it's that this system is a touchscreen notebook, not a 2-in-1 tablet with a digitizing screen.  It's the system that would need to be redesigned (rumors are there will be a new 2-in-1 XPS 15, but so far Dell hasn't released it  yet).  The older XPS 9575 was the last 15" Dell XPS system with active pen support.

You CAN use a generic touchscreen stylus if you wish.  If what you're looking for is full pressure-sensitive pen support for drawing and handwriting, this system will never have that.

Thanks @ejn for the very helpful response.  I just ordered a Mixoo stylus from amazon and it works, but as you not is not pressure sensitive, which is due to the screen not the stylus.

I disagree! I had the newer Dell XPS 15 7590 i9 9980HK, with touchscreen, and the Pen (Pn579x) worked great. I now have a Dell XPS 15 9500, i7-10750h and the pen does not work! What in the world... It connects via Bluetooth, as it should, and you can click on the top, which copies an image for "snip and Sketch", but it will not WRITE on the screen. What a major disappointment!!!

I should comment that just about any standard capacitive stylus may not work. My 9550 touch screen works fine with fingers. Fat rubber-pointed capacitive pens work okay, lines sometimes get intermittent if not drawing slowly and with enough pressure. Smaller-tip rubber pens (4mm diameter) don't work okay, lines get both intermittent and jagged. Same with fine-point capacitive pens.

A universal passive stylus will work:

(for example).

It won't get you pressure sensitivity or precision drawing/writing -- your system is not capable of those.  It's a touchscreen, not an active screen.

Does anyone know if there is a working stylus for the XPS 15 9520 with touchscreen?
