Try highlighting the message  than Shift and Delete keys simultaneously.

 

Or try deleting in safe mode.

You may have a corrupt inbox dbx file, you can restore the file but will lose all email in it.

This happens when you do not keep things cleaned up by deleting things regularly, then empty the deleted items folder once a week or so. Also archive emails you need to keep occasionally. When dbx files get too big they get corrupted in OE.

The delete shift worked but i would like to save some of the messages-

i only have 206 messages now instead of 827 but the box still says that i have 3246.

how do i get into safe mode-

can i save the deleted messages when i do it that way-

Create a folder in OE's left pane>save>than delete.
