VDS Basic Provider Error
I have a new XPS8300 with Win7 Ultimate 64-bit and on each and every boot I get the same error in the Windows>System log:
Source: VDS Basic Provider
Event ID: 1
Unexpected failure. Error code: D@01010004
This error is logged three times in quick succession at each boot up. Any clues?

HERE is something from Microsoft on this. They say to ignore it but it shouldn't be comeing up to start with. Since this is a new PC, you may be better calling Dell support in case there is something wrong. There was a thread on the Windows 7 about this and it can occur if you have Virtural Drive or Alcohol installed.

Thanks, Fireberd. I'd spotted the Microsoft article but wasn't sure it was applicable as the operating system scenario is totally different from mine. Guess I'll have to talk with Dell Support...
