Do I need a firewall if I have a wireless router?
Hey all,
I'm just wondering if I should install a 3rd party firewall if I have a router in place?
People say that the router acts like a firewall already, so should I install a software firewall?
Thanks.

I'm using Zone Alarm and also a Dell Truemobile 2300 Router. When I installed the Router I already had ZA so I left it there. You could go to this site and run Shields Up and Leak Test to see how well your router is protecting you. If you're not visible to the world then you don't need a software firewall.

From a pinned thread on the "First Time Users" board.
"If you are behind a router, you are safer, as the NAT feature of the router will discard all unsolicited traffic that arrives. However, it does not completely protect you, as trojans and other things can still get out. Some routers, like the TM2300, include a built in firewall. I have a belkin router that has a pretty capable firewall. Check with the maker of your router to see if it has a firewall."
I run NIS 2003 behind my Linksys wrt54g router.

Having a router always helps & is much safe but a 3rd party firewall (software) is always recemmended.
Firewalls like zone alarm wont keep a track of stuff like keyloggers....I have used almost all firewalls & the best is Norton Personal Firewall.....You can get a trial version of it & try.....It beats any firewall by farrrrrrrrrr !!!!
