can't reinstall McAfee Virus Scan Plus

Mc Afee shows me in red in the security center screen.  This morning I was showed in yellow and  it said version Privacy Center 8.0 new is 10.

I have "virus scan plus"  I bought it and install it when the "McAfee total privacy service" subscription (included when I bought my computer) expired on July '07

I tried to reinstall my Virus Scan plus but McAfee indicated first "remove programs". I did it using window´s control panel tools and now I'm in red !! and cannot install again Virus Scan plus. When I try ito do so indicates to remove Privacy Service but I cant remove it. It doesn't allow me, can't mark the box . What can I do ??   someone knows how can I reinstall Virus scan plus?? I've already sent emails to McAfee but no answer (as usual).... Need help please, Thanks

Marcela

Did you use McAfee's MCPR Tool?  See if this helps:

Enable Windows Firewall if you have XP or Vista.

Follow these instructions:

1. Uninstall all McAfee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel".

2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe). This will remove all McAfee remnants from your computer. (you must have Windows Vista, XP or 2000 SP4 to use this tool)

3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\ \Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one!
In Vista: C:\Program Files, C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming
(Don't worry if you can't find any, the removal tool probably removed them all).

4. Reboot and redownload/reinstall your McAfee products directly from your account at the McAfee web site. (NOT from any CD that you may have).

If you've reinstalled McAfee Firewall, Windows own firewall should have been turned off automatically (XP, Vista).

Edit:  Marcela, upon a second read, it looks as though you and the person at the McAfee forum have a  GREAT deal in common. :smileywink:  Glad to see you got it fixed!]

You're welcome, Marcela.  I hadn't realized when I first posted Peter's instructions, that the post at the McAfee forum was yours.    No matter.. as long as everything is working and you're back in the green !
