Trojan worm download

I was on the internet this morning and all of a sudden I got a pop up window from Norton Antivirus that said High Risk Norton Antivirus has detected a virus on your computer C:\Windows\System32\msdvdopt.exe Virus name download Trojan

I couldn't get the message to go away even after the norton deleted the file and fixed it. I

I got off the internet and ran a virus scan(norton 2004) it said it fixed the file and made a back up copy in back up, I ran another virus scan and it said no virus found,

Am I okay, or do I still have it somewhere.

Could this have come from a pop up window while on the internet.

Do I have to reformat the hard drive. Everything seems fine at this point.

How do you get a trojan horse just sitting on the internet and only reading web pages, could it have come from a web page pop up window. The only thing I did this morning was update my norton virus definitions, could I have gotten the trojan from the norton virus definition update?

Thanks

Shelia

P.S. why won't system restore work after a trojan is found. I tried backing the computer up to 2 days ago before the infection and it wouldn't work. System restore works now when I make a restore point after the trojan was deleted.

Use these to remove Malware (Virus, Spyware and Adware).

First :-
Spybot S&D and Ad-aware using the settings and links provided
Here

Failing those solving your problems a post of a hijackthis log for the experts to advise.
HijackThis From Here
or one of these other links:-
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip
http://www.aluriasoftware.com/tools/hijackthis.zip
http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. Unzip HijackThis into this folder. (See this link for graphical instructions)
Then run, scan, save log, then in notepad copy the FULL log by copy and paste as a reply to this post and an expert with HijackThis Knowldge, will have a go at giving advice. A lot of posters make mistakes here in copying and pasting so reread the left info sidebar called Copy and Paste
Please note the list of experts names below, very few forum regulars here have had this training.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING WITH HIJACKTHIS WITHOUT EXPERT ADVICE
, most of what it finds you need for normal MS Windows tasks.
