Microsoft Security Centre - this is spyware/malware whatever you want to call it!
Over the last few days I was struck down by a virus that when clicking on my internet explorer button, every second page address that I typed redirected me to a page saying 'Microsoft Security Centre' Your computer have been attacked by viruses (NOTICE THE GRAMMAR USED) please download antispyware now.
Well I used all my antivirus checkers and windows defender and god knows what else I downloaded - it didnt even detect the thing let alone try to delete it.
After searching hard and found various similar situations I came across the following site - www.bleepingcomputer.com (brilliant just carefully follow instructions step by step). Go to www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
I did this step by step and so far has cleared up and deleted the problem. (Well I hope so!)
As requested by the site I am instructed to upload the report log for 'advisors' and to forums to help others out. (Note i am not a pc genius and cant really decipher what the log actually means)

Hi, scaramoose,
Welcome to DCF! :)
Did you see this in the instructions at Bleeping Computer?
"....you should not run ComboFix until you are asked to by a helper. Please note that each forum has different policies, so please be sure to read any pinned topics and rules for the particular forum about how you should go about receiving help."
ComboFix is a powerful tool is a powerful tool intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for private use.
Please read Combofix's Disclaimer:
Here are just two examples of the consequences of using Combofix without supervision.
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=si_virus&thread.id=67009
http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6132_102-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=293341&messageID=2763333#2763333
Please uninstall Combofix:

* Click Start then Run
* Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Notice the space between the X and the /u
This will uninstall ComboFix. It will also implement some cleanup procedures and reset System Restore points.
This is the HijackThis Board. I will try to do this without your Hijackthis log. You must have missed the instructions for installing HijackThis which are posted at the top of this forum.
* If you are using any cracked software, please remove it.
Definition of cracked software:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_cracking
* If you are using any P2P (file sharing) programs, please remove them before we clean your computer. That includes torrents.
The nature of such software and the high incidence of malware in files downloaded with them is counter productive to restoring your PC to a healthy state. If you have music files in those programs' folders that you want to save, please move those music files to another directory.
A list of P2P's is here: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=si_virus&thread.id=69430
* If this computer belongs to someone else, do you have authority to apply the fixes we will use?
* After we begin working, please print or copy all instructions to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out procedures.
Please follow all instructions in sequence. Do not, on your own, install/re-install any programs or run any fixes or scanners that you have not been instructed to use because this may cause conflicts with the tools that I am using.
* During the course of our cleanup please do not do any online work or surfing until we have verified that your system is clean.
* We may be using some specialized tools during our fix. Certain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs or specialized fix tools such as process.exe, restart.exe, SmiUpdate.exe, reboot.exe, ws2fix.exe, prcviewer.exe and nircmd.exe may at times be detected by some anti-virus/anti-malware scanners as a "RiskTool", "Hacking tool", "Potentially unwanted tool", or even "malware (virus/trojan)" when that is not the case.
Such programs have legitimate uses in contexts where an authorized user or administrator has knowingly installed it. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malware or a bad program. It means it has the potential for being misused by others. Anti-virus scanners cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you or even automatically remove them.
* Please post a HijackThis log in your next reply.
* If your replies do not fit in one post while we are handling your issue, please reply to yourself until all text is submitted. It may take several posts.
* After one week if you have not replied to my most recent post, I will consider this forum thread INACTIVE. If you would like me to continue handling your issue after that time, please send me a Private Message with a request to do so.
Instructions posted for this user are customized for this user only. The tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections. If you think you have similar problems, please post a HijackThis log at the top of this board to start a new forum topic.

As far as removing it, that is because ComboFix leaves folders and files on your system. They are used to run Combofix, but are not needed after that.
When people come to the forums, there are usually announcements posted with posting procedures to follow. Ours are in the "HOW TO POST..." at the top of this board. It includes all the steps you need for downloading HijackThis and posting here. Other sites, have similar announcements.
We cannot tell you if you "appear" to have remaining malware in there or not until we see some follow-up logs. You may also have a vulnerability that caused you to become infected.
A common one is outdated Java.
I'm reviewing your log and will reply soon. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Okay if I got your message correctly are you bascally saying that if I dont remove this combofix ftom my computer it will slowly damage the whole system and bugger my pc up?
I dont really know how to go about removing these viruses or whom to trust.
And another thing I havent a scooby as to what 'HijackThis' is, so clueless as whether ive posted my response (report log combofix) to the wrong place and secondly as far as i can see my computer is now running okay and I do not appear to have any more known viruses.
If you can help in any way much appreciated.

Please remove Kontiki as well.
Also remove My Search Bar, My WebSearch Email Plugin, MyWebSearchWB. and My Web Search Bar Search Scope Monitor ( whichever ones are listed)
using Add/Remove Programs.
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here
or from Here
Notes:
**If you encounter this message:"c:\program files\malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll Unable to register the dll/ocx: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x5" Click on ignore mbamext.dll
**If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.
We will be cleaning up any remnants and updating your Java.

Please launch HijackThis and place a checkmark next to the following:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O23 - Service: iPod Service - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe (file missing)
The following are not necessarily spyware/malware, but we suggest you place a check mark next to the following entries, as these programs may be taking up system resources.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CARPService] carpserv.exe
(Description: Not necessary. Carpserv info)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe
(Description: Checks for updates to MS Works. Unnecessary. Removing this entry will free up some system resources. )
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] \"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe\"
(Adobe reader startup - uses system resources.)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
( Nvidia system tray applet - Unnecessary.)
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE
( Microsoft Office startup assistant -- Unnecessary. Removing this entry will free up a lot of system resources.)
Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked". Close HijackThis.
Reboot.
Run Disk Cleanup in each user's profile:
Click "Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup"
Please make sure only the following are checked:
-- Downloaded Program Files
-- Temporary Internet Files
-- Recycle Bin
-- Temporary Files
Click "OK" and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.
Download -- to your Desktop -- JavaRa.Zip from either of these two sites:
http://prm753.bchea.org/click/click.php?id=9
http://www.majorgeeks.com/JavaRa_d5967.html
Remove Startup Entry
Remove JavaRa Logfile
Please post a fresh HijackThis log. If everything looks okay, we'll flush System Restore so you start with a fresh Restore Point.

So is this any help??
If theres anything that you can suggest to delete im all up for it (if I can find it that is!) You see I bought this pc from a friend a few years ago and she dowloaded non stop, she had loads of P2P programs but the last time I thought was clearing the files out I actually did more harm and had to restore back. That said there arent anywhere near the amount that there used to be.
