Raid 1 on Optiplex 380 it is possible?
Hi at all,
I would like to make a Raid1 with 2 disk 2Tb for data (another disc 256Gb is only for operanting system) on OPTIPLEX 380 (Core 2 Duo E7500 2.9GHz year 2011). This system is windows 10 pro 1903 version. I tryed mirror with operanting system but not work well (resyncronize continuous). It is possible to have a raid1 by bios or another system without mount a raid controller on this Optiplex 380? Bob

Hello 74hct245,
Optiplex 380 does not support RAID. Apparently we do not have any other system/program that we can suggest to configure RAID on this model.

Hi @Dell-Tabassum M,
I believe it's the whole Optiplex line that doesn't support RAID, isn't it?
Hi @74hct245,
Servers like Dell Precision's and PowerEdge's do support RAID.

Hi,
for example, could I use the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver ?

Dell Optiplex 380 does not have the option to configure RAID from the bios. But you can add mirror from computer management. Dell optiplex 780 have the option to configure RAID from bios.

2009 Old PC 380 what, what case form factor is it, hoping not SFF, but what? is it?
MT, DT, SFF ? (never buy SFF !) IMO !
what is the primary purpose to use raid.?
my wild guess is speed?? (if yes, what reason?, just faster windows? or?)
if you want speed buy SSD.
if you need production server?, buy a server. (id bet this is not it but , is on the list)
if you want backup servers, buy a real server. I use R710, costing (nill) ask me, for link to good source used.
I have R710 for huge plex server and one for backup server, and cost were crazy cheep, $150?
you could put a LSI SAS card inside and run raid that way. (generic cards endless) "Megaraid" ever hear of that?
what is the purpose, as purpose matters 100% first. only and (usage total)
First purpose then match HW to purpose.
my answer is a NON DELL answer here, and is what works doing RAID with NON DELL RAID cards, !!!!
you already learned the software RAID fails. (not happy so....)
The cards one can use are not expensive EVEN $20 LSI cards, why do you fear cards? not stated at all.
SFF reason? not stated.
ever seen these,
LSI-9211 card
runs SAS and SATA, DRIVES fast.
and its clones
these great cards are dirt cheap and can be flashed to HBA (IT) mode or RAID mode (IR)
$20 big time cost.
google that and learn what vast persons do with 9211... just take 30mins and read, endless....
OR?
A far better used PC is only $50 why not upgrade first, sorry but you really should. I5 Gen4 at least.
3020? (2013 made or newer is always best, for now and has a future)_
why work, with such old lron. 2009 ?????

Hi @bradthetechnut,
The older Optiplex systems do not support RAID. However, there are other models like 3040 / 3046 / 5040 / 7040 etc.. which supports RAID 0 and 1.
Hi @74hct245,
Intel Storage manager would not be an option on this model. However, yes the mirror via disk management is something you can try. If it is re-syncing ensure the system is not interrupted by shut down or reboot or maximum usage. You may try this press F5 and refresh the disk management console to check if the re sync percentage show up. Incase F5 refresh does not work right click on the RAID drives click actions or more actions and refresh to see if it helps.
Please note as this model does not support RAID, hence, we do not have any set model specific instructions to recommend. Please try the above to see if that helps.

I solved using the software mirror of the windows 10 operating system. It was essential to have cleaned the disks used in the mirror with diskpart (clean). Those disks came from an old NAS (linux) that probably left some hidden partitions.
Now with both disks cleaned from diskpart the operating system software mirror works. It did the synchronization and now the mirror is healthy. I would say that it works well (I tried with massive deletions and copies of large files and that's fine ...)
Thanks again for the valuable support
