U2720Q, MacBook Pro, resets resolution on every wake

Hi there,

I recently purchased a Dell U2720Q monitor and have it connected to my 2020 MacBook Pro M1 (lid closed) via the enclosed USB Type-C to C cable that came in the box.

I have run into several issues, the first being that pretty much every time I wake my MacBook and indeed the U2720Q from sleep mode, the U2720Q resolution will reset from my scaled version back to the default for display. Anyway that I can counter this?

Also, another niggle I find, is that, again, on most occasions, when waking the MacBook and U2720Q, it will take forever to wake. Typically, tapping on one of the hard keys such as space, enter, esc etc will force the U2720Q to wake, but the USB Type-C connection, won't find the MacBook and instead the monitor will return to sleep mode.  When try to wake it again, the issue with the resolution reset, will then arise.

If this problem can not be fixed I will have to return the U2720Q and look elsewhere, as this is becoming a real productivity nightmare.

Just to let you know, also, it is not cable related or the USB Type-C connection related as I went out and purchased a high end USB Type- C (Thunderbolt 3) - DP cable and am experiencing exactly the same issues still.

I would appreciate your help.

Thanks.

I have had the same issue with my U2720Q and Mac Mini M1, so I started playing around with the sleep settings. I disabled the sleep function alternatively between the monitor and the mac. It seems that the issue is on Mac OS' end. After disabling it, I forced the monitor to go into sleep mode. Upon waking it up the resolution stays the same.

You can give this a try, while waiting for Apple to issue a fix. I searched on Apple Community and there is a thread where someone mentioned that they contacted AppleCare and was told that Apple engineers are aware of the problem, but no estimate on when a fix will be issued though.

@lfc5381

Updated to Big Sur 11.2 today and that seems to remedy the wake up issues.
