3007WFP and HDCP

Hi, The following report is from Cyberlink when I try to play a HD-DVD;

Check Item HD DVD Ready?

System Memory : 2048 MB Yes
Operating System : Windows Vista Yes
Graphics Card : NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX Yes
Graphics Card Driver : 7.15.11.54 Yes
HD DVD Drive : [K:] TOSHIBA DVD/HD X807616 Yes

I am running via a DVI-D connection at fulle 2560x1600 resolution. I thought that this monitor was HDCP compliant - anyone know why I cannot play any HD-DVDs?

Ignore system spec in my footer - that's my other PC!

Regards
Brian.

Chris,

Thanks for the reply - yes everything works fine for games and every other situation at maximum resolution.  The only issue is with HDDVD HDCP output.

It turns out that this is a problem between the graphics card and the monitor.  The nVidia card apparently disables HDCP when in Dual Link mode.  They advise using a Single Link connection at the lower native resolution of the Dell.

The only problem is that I don't know how to do this!  The Dell will only work with a Dual Link digital cable, so I can't connect a serial link DVI-I cable.  NVidia have now gone silent on me!

Any ideas?  Is there a way to force the monitor into single link mode at the lower native resolution?  I have tried simply setting the resolution lower, but this does not work!

Regards
Brian.

If I remember correctly, only one of the 2 DVI outs on the 7900GTX was Dual-link. Switch the DVI cable over to the other one and you won't get anything over 1280. The pain is that you have to switch it back every time...

If both DVI outs are dual-link, you can always use a single link cable to connect to the Dell, that will also result in a 1280 desktop.

The question is, is it worth it? Sadly even the latest 8800GTX does not solve this problem. I am waiting for the new ATI card, or a refresh product for Nvidia for this...

In the meanwhile, there is always this software:

Great, thanks for the info - I will give it a go.

It's funny - the UK government rejected restrictions on DRM the other day stating that "...Digital Rights Management, helped give users unprecedented choice".  I am not seeing it that way myself as, so far, all the problems I have had with Vista have been down to DRM!!  There isn't an illegal piece of anything on any of my PCs yet I can't use some of it!  Laugh - I nearly did!

Regards
Brian.
