A DVD-RW drive - either internal or external USB

Yes, a laptop can burn DVDs.  :smileyhappy:

As mentioned you will need a DVD burner (DVD +-RW) drive.

My system is the 9300 with the DVD burner. I've burned several DVDs (both video and data) with this system.

You will also need some DVD data or Authoring software tool (along with the burner), however, to actualy burn the DVD media.

Yes, it can burn one. Earlier this year I replaced my wife's 3 year old Inspiron 8100 fixed bay drive with a dual layer DVD read/writer I bought off eBay. Several sources said it wasn't compatible with her laptop but it works just fine.

Do you mean the touchpad?  Yes, you can disable it.  If you're just having issues with it being too sensitive or selecting something you didn't mean to as you're scrolling across the screen you can adjust those settings so they won't cause you headaches.  Click on the link below and read about tweaking the touchpad before you decide to disable it completely.
