My LCD screen completely blacked out. Dead?
The other day after leaving my computer on for the day I came back to it and find that the LCD screen is glowing grey at the corners and I can't see my desktop. Then later I discover that my warranty has expired (after my first laptop 2 months earlier was replaced after many replacements, LOONG story) and that I need a new LCD screen. Now I am using an external monitor.
So here I am feeling denied and very discouraged about the reliability on Dell notebooks. I ask now what is wrong with my screen, is it completely dead?
Does it need a certain new component?
Where can I find the replacement and how much?
Is this something I can fix myself?
Thanks for reading.

Oh yes I'm sorry. I own an Inspiron 5150 with a 15" UXGA screen.

Do I need a new converter? Flex cable?

Yes, I can use it with my external monitor so I know it's not the Video Card.
How could I test to see if it is the inverter? Is there something I should look for on the converter or LCD screen?
Should I be worried about my back-light?
Thanks for the responses.

My warranty has expired and I don't look forwad to spending $700 plus for a new LCD screen.
How much did you get the inverter for and where did you get the diagrams for installing it?
Thanks for your responses.
