Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 = BSOD !!!

I have installed my Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 on my new Inspiron 6400 T2400 Centrino Duo 1.83GHz notebook. 90% of the time when I plug in the webcam it causes the dreaded BSOD (plugged in either before or after startup). I have tried both the bundled CD drivers and the latest version from the Logitech website, both give the same result.

Does anyone know of any compatibility issues with this product?

it could be helpful if you could quote the exact error message.

Oh, okay (I'm not too knowledgeable on the tech side, you my have guessed).

The message on the BSOD is as follows:

STOP: 0x00000008E (0xC0000005, 0xA8374636, 0xA9FBAAF8, 0x00000000)

Lvckap.sys - Address A8374636 base at A8365000, DateStamp 43950596

Thanks

yup, that Lvckap.sys is Logitech Kernel Audio Processing Filter Driver.

can I ask if there are any problems with other usb devices?

The only other thing I've plugged in via USB was a Sony Cybershot T-7 digital camera. This worked fine.

I'm at a loss on how to advise you.

you could try uninstalling everything under usb in device manager then reboot to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. One question - will Windows detect and re-install the USB elements on startup?

I'm running Windows XP Home. Uninstalling the USB controllers didn't work. One quirk I've discovered though:

Boot the computer up and log in. Plug in the webcam and get the BSOD. Restart the computer leaving it plugged in, computer boots up fine and the webcam works perfectly!

Wierd, eh? Hardly ideal but at least I can use it until a solution is found.

Windows update is set to automatic so should be up to date. A friend has the Logitech Fusion webcam so I'm going to try installing that just to see what happens...

Over 2 days and still no reply from Dell Support either - they must be scratching their heads too! I should ask for a refund when they decide to get back to me.

Thanks for all your help.

Just grasping at straws here but did you install the latest critical Windows updates as there was one for the Windows echo software.

I should add that I am using the Logitech Notebook Pro WebCam on my laptop which uses the same drivers as the 5000 and have experienced no problems.
