There's no "Audio Device" in device manager!

1. Install the Dell System Software R28801 and reboot.
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/Product/vostro-1015?driverId=NJ7GT&osCode=ww1&fileId=2731099470&languageCode=en&categoryId=UT

2. Install the Intel Chipset R225247 driver and reboot.
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/Product/vostro-1015?driverId=CGTHY&osCode=ww1&fileId=2731109570&languageCode=en&categoryId=CS

3. Install the Conexant R286583 audio driver
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/Product/vostro-1015?driverId=1W8CN&osCode=ww1&fileId=2731099310&languageCode=en&categoryId=AU

If it still will not install then you need to get the UAA hotfix from Microsoft. (This is for SP2 -- it is included in SP3.)

1. Open Windows Explorer and go to c:\dell\drivers\R286583 and delete the R286583 folder. That is the Conexant audio driver.
2. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111 and get the UAA hotfix. Install it and restart the computer. The hotfix is a patch that helps SP2 deal with HD audio.
3. Download the Conexant R286583 driver again or re-use the previous download if you still have it..
4. After it finishes extracting the files and begins to install, cancel.
5. Open Device Manager and expand System devices near the bottom. Find the PCI Device entry with a ? next to it. Go to the properties and choose to update the driver. Choose to manually find the driver but do not allow Windows to look for it. Browse to c:\dell\drivers\R286583\WDM then reboot the laptop.

Windows should detect the Conexant hardware and install the driver. If the above does not work, then uninstall the UAA hotfix and follow all steps again, except this time use the older UAA hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835221 that some people say works better for them.

Hi saad430,

Uninstall the audio drivers from Device manager.

  • Click on Start and then Control Panel.
  • Click on the Performance and Maintenance link.
  • Note: If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel, you won't see this link. Simple double-click on the System icon and proceed to Step 4.
  • In the Performance and Maintenance window, click on the System icon near the bottom of the window.
  • In the System Properties window, click on the Hardware tab.
  • With the Hardware tab selected, click on the Device Manager button.
  • Now click the plus sign next to “Sound, video and Game controllers” to expand it.
  • Under “Sound, video and Game controllers”, right click “Audio device”, click “Uninstall”.
  • Check the box “Delete driver software for this device”, click ok and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall.

Now install the Conexant Audio drivers from the following link:

Please post back with result.

There's no "Audio Device" in device manager!

There's only

- Audio Codecs

- Legacy Audio Drivers

- Legacy Video Capture Devices

- Media Control Devices

- Video Codes
