Integrated webcam says not connected
I have an Inspiron 11 3000 running Windows 10. The built-in webcam is not working. It didn't show up under Device Manager; when I went to Show Hidden Devices I saw it but it was greyed out. Clicking on Properties got me the following message: "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45) To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer."
This is not an external webcam that I can unplug and plug back in, it's built into the laptop itself! What on earth does this mean and how can I do what it's asking?
(Yes, I have already tried searching for driver updates and restarting the computer.)

Count yourself lucky that it even shows up in Device Manager.
What is the Hardware Info for the webcam in Device Manager? You'd need that to find a driver.

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm on a Dell Inspiron 15 with Windows 10. The integrated webcam was working yesterday then suddenly stopped. Just disappeared. I ran the Dell troubleshooter but it couldn't find it. I checked Device Manager, but it wasn't there. I figured out how to unhide items in Device Manager, and then the Camera showed up. According to the properties, it's "not connected to the computer," even though it's a built-in device.
I tried updating the drivers through the Device Manager, but it says they're updated. Ran the DellAssist diagnostic too, but no change. I considered uninstalling it, but I'm not sure how to reinstall it if I do.
Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

I know for a fact that the webcam on a Latitude E6230 works with Windows 10 v1909.
I bought a used E6230 on eBay and did a clean installation of Windows 10 v1909. May be cheaper to go this route since E6230 can be found for about $100 on eBay. Make sure to buy one with a webcam.

We've had exactly the same problem with the camera on a Dell 1300. We've been on the phone to Dell helpline for 2 days and they even reinstalled the whole operating system remotely and still the problem remains. Next stop for us is a replacement laptop as needed for remote learning and cannot be used as is. Very frustrating !

So, i created an account just to comment on this.
I have an Inspiron I5 7559, and my camera too wasnt working, nor showing in Device Manager etc.
Turns out, that it's a hardware issue and I don't think Dell want to advise on this because from what I can see is it is affecting all kinds of models
To test if its hardware (probably a lose cable) open up device manager and then squeeze/press around where the camera is situated on the screen (on mine it worked if i pressed on the right side of the camera) and see if device manager automatically refreshes and shows your Camera (for me it appeared under Camera > Integrated WebCamera). it also seemed to appear if i pressed around the right hand side connection where the screen connects to the keyboard.
Unfortunately my laptop is out of service, so i am pretty much .
Hope this helps someone

I have an Inspiron 13 running windows 10 and have the same problem. I have tried all manner of things over the last few months to get it going, it works for a hour or sometimes a little more and then stops again. Recently though I cant even get it running at all. There must be loads of consumers with the same problem, I just don't understand why Windows or Dell have not come up with a fix. The help on Windows via the camera app has changed over the period I have been trying to fix the issue so they do know there is a problem. Looking on the bright side perhaps one day it will work??!!

Hi all,
Due to this post was given free of charge Tech to sort it out via private messaging. Result, hardware problem go to your local technician. There are a host of community threads showing issues with code 0xA00F4244 as customers in view of Covid 19 want to use the camera but no resolutions on how to fix. So unless you are in warranty, Dell wont sort it out. Seems like a big issue so I am surprised that Dell are not fixing.

Mine started giving me problems after some Windows Update after which the camera would be disconnected after waking up from sleep mode. It's okay after reboot. So now my laptop seldom sleeps and I know to immediately reboot if an app cannot connect to it.
I've searched for a solution but none found.

At last after months of trying various options the webcam is working again. I updated my BIOS with the latest update and hey presto its working again. The update from Dell came out in September I guess after so many issues that people had. Give it a try and hope it works for you!!
