Crucial.com is a good place -- they offer guaranteed compatible RAM at very good prices.

The other thing that will speed up the system appreciably -- if you have a conventional hard drive, replace it with a solid state drive.

hi, tell me please, it would work if i put a 8gb ram memory in my second socket, considering that i have another memory of 4gb, so it will totally be 12 gb?

Will the go well?

Thanks a lot.

The reason OP was having issues was probably that they bought a 2gb ram stick that was either a different clock speed or different CAS latency than the 4gb that was already in there. You want to make sure these are the same for both sticks regardless of the amounts.

This motherboard can handle up to 8gbs per slot. So it’s upgradable to 16gb total, 8gbs in each.

But mine did work. 4gb + another 8gb =12gb ram. Its work very well and faster compared to just 4gb alone. It started becoming slower when i started trading, opening lots of charts and trading platforms at the same time. So i have now decided to upgrade the the hard drive to an ssd, 500gb ssd to see how that will help out. Im pretty sure it will. But i also want to confirm if i can upgrade the cpu to an i7 core from i3. Saw that it will be possible but they said the speed will differ which got me confused. Ill upgrade to ssd and see what happens and if that can handle my heavy workload on this fragile laptop then i wont bother upgradig the cpu.

True, mine is 12gb now. But would still upgrade to 16gb.

But im told the max memory for dell 15 inspiron 3521 is 16gb. 8+8. I could have upgraded mine to that but i decided to add another 8gb to the existing 4gb now making it 12gb and still works fine even much faster than before. My only concern is the cpu. Which when i saw a compatible i7 core motherboard they said it is compatible  but the speed will difer..i,e it wont still run faster as the new i7 is installed..still not clear about that. can you pls explain better, how this will  differ if an entire motherboard is changed to an upgraded i7 compared to i3??
