How to replace CPU Fan in Dimension 5150

I want to replace a non-Dell CPU Fan.  The original fan is 12V 1.3A with a unique plug (5pins).  Do I need to buy one specific 12V 1.3A fan?Or just one 12V fan is safe enough?  Also, how can I put original plug (5pins) to the new fan?

Thanks for your help!

You need to buy a Dell Dimension 5150 OEM fan, as shown HERE, you may find a 5150 fan on eBay, like the used fan assembly, shown HERE

Dell's procedure for removing and replacing the fan assembly, is HERE <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

As Bev notes you need a Dell OEM fan.  If you use a non Dell fan you will always get a fan failure notice when you boot the PC and will have to press F1 to continue with the boot.  The Dell OEM fan has a sensor on it, that standard fans do not have.  I have a Dimension E510 which is identical to the 5150.

Or to put it another way, "you are on your own" to figure it out.  I've seen some 3/4 pin adapters for use with standard ATX motherboards.  I don't know if one of those would work on the Dell proprietary board.  The other option if you can figure out the leads is to cut the connector from the Dell fan and splice it to the leads from the non-Dell fan.  But, again it will be up to you to figure out what leads/pins are what.

Thanks Fireberd.  I don't mind to press F1 when booting up the PC.  But the plug is unique and smaller than the standard.  How can apply a non-Dell fan on my PC?

The fan needs to be the Dell Fan

Dell H7058 Y4574 U6368 CPU Fan Delta Dimension E510 E310 5100 5150

Part/Model Numbers: Y4574, U6368, H7058, 4715KL-04W-B56

Removing the Fan Assembly

  1. Follow the procedures in "Before You Begin."

  2. Remove the computer cover.

  3. Remove the heat-sink assembly.

  4. Press the release tab on the fan-cable connector on the system board to remove the connector.

But I don't want to have a Dell's fan anymore.  Therefore I need to know something about the figure A, V and W printed on the fan.

Dell isn't going to provide that information.

You will get a fan failure message and the system may shut down.

You Must Use a Dell Fan.

Yes, I know.  I will take that risk. The fan is too noisy and I can't stand it anymore.  I bought a Zalman Speed Controller but it suggest only to connect a fan not over 6W.  A shop manager offer to help if I buy another rheostat speed controller or a PWM speed controller.  I may change it on Sunday.

I replaced the CPU fan instead.  The supervisor helped me to fix the new one on the stand.  But the new CPU fan use the power supply directly from the Power Supply Unit.  It works perfect.
