Easy Transfer Cable

I want to be able to transfer data from my windows 7 pc to my windows xp laptop and then be able to transfer the data to an xp pc in a different location- keeping the info on the laptop also. I guess what I need is an Easy Transfer Cable. Is that correct? I find them on eBay from $1 to $47. What should I look for to be able to do this with reasonable speed? I doubt that I will ever transfer more than a 1/2 gig at a time. Many of these folders will contain mostly old files but some new ones. Is there a program or some way to tell the computers to only bother transferring files that are not already in the folder that is being transferred to? That would save time. Help appreciated.

A USB " memory key" would be the least expensive way of doing it and would not require using the transfer software.  You can buy a 1 or 2 GB memory key cheap as long as it is one that has Windows XP drivers (some do and some do not).   You copy whatever data you want to the memory key and then take it to the XP machine and copy from the key to the hard drive.

A "transfer cable" is a special "cross-over" type cable.  There are USB types and there may be ethernet types available.  These are usually more than the cost of a USB memory key.
