Drivers for Logitech Webcam

Happy New Year,

I just bought a new Dell and since it was Christmas treated myself to a Webcam as part of the deal. The computer is fine but when I come to use the webcam it tells me

The program you are trying to run requires a current Indeo codec.
To obtain a current driver that is compatible with this version of Windows, please contact the manufacturer at
http://indeo.ligos.com.

Following the link there is indeed a driver, but at a cost. It seems Microsoft do not include it in XP SP1, so it must be added. Since it was all part of the deal I assumed Dell would supply something that worked.

Is this common practice? Is there any way to get the webcam working without paying more for the driver?

Thanks

Have you tried the Logitech site?  There are many versions of Quickcam so I don't know exactly which you have.  At any rate here is a patch for SP1 for one of the versions.  Go to the Logitech Site here and find the correct version if the link I provided is not for your webcam.

I have a Logitech Webcam that I bought from Dell.  DId you receive a CD with your Webcam? On mine you pop the CD in and there's a button for Installation of the Webcam in there is where the driver is located.  What version of the cam do you own? I have the Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000.  Check http://www.driverguide.com/ and the Logitech Website!

DeBuG_59,

If the camera came from Logitech, then the complete driver package should either be on a CD that came with the camera or you should be able to download it from Logitech's website.  Follow this link and you should be able to locate a complete driver package for your camera:

The reason that MS stopped including this support with SP1 is that Ligos purchased the entire Indeo product line from Intel and no longer provides it to MS for free.  Apparently Ligos wants to make money, too.  Check this link from Intel:

Hi BigBrother (but also cadellwr and gdsykes for your posts),

Thank you for the swift responses.

I had not gone to the Logitech site. There I was able to get the driver for my QuickCam Web. And the cam is working.

Thanks
