Dell Wireless Multimedia keyboard and mouse

I have a client that purchased a Dell Wireless Multimedia keyboard and mouse for a Dell Optiplex 240 that runs Windows 2000 Pro, sp 4.

The issue is with the driver installation.  After running the self-extracting file and selecting "Open" to actually invoke the setup, the result is the setup program opens up the system's volume controls applet., the same applet you get by double-clicking the speaker icon in the system tray.

I've downloaded the wireless multimedia driver and used two (2) separate install CD's to no avail.  The keyboard and mouse actually work, but I don't have access to enhanced keys on the keyboard (Home page, back & forward buttons, etc.)

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi, my name is Pat, I just bought two wireless multimedia keyboards and mices, when i try to install the disk it is bringing up a volume control button, after placing my computer in the standby mode whenever i shift the mouse or press a key it  is not bringing my computer to the desktop, I have to press the button on my CPU to bring it out of the standby mode, I also gave one to my daughter and she is having the same problem I contacted Dell but after trying to help me so much there was nothing they could do, when I bought the keyboard and mouse the documentation said that it could be used with any Dell computer, my neice just bought a Dell computer with the wireless keyboard and mouse and it is working fine, can you tell me if it will only work if bought with a dell system at the same time , and if you buy it after you bought your system it will not work , i have since then switched back to my old keyboard which works just fine,so what do we do with the two that we just bought, is there any way for it to work, and can you tell me do i have to go to standby mode, is it good for my computer or is it better to let it just go to screen saver, can you help me?

              thank you

                  Pat.

To all,

How many of you are running Windows XP? These were all keyboards purchased separately from you systems? What is the part number you have on the invoice?

To all,

First, if you bought this package 310-4170:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=310-4170&c=us&l=en&cs=04&category_id=4000&page=external

The hotkeys will ONLY function in Windows XP. How many of you getting the "Setup.exe brings up volume control, error" are running Windows XP?

It only works with Windows XP?

1) Where does it say this / is there any way I could have POSSIBLY known this?
2) Why would you Dell sell me a keyboard incompatible with an operating system -- together!
3) Product specs state:

* This product has been tested and validated on Dell™ systems to ensure it will work with your computer
* Supported by Dell™ Technical Support when used with a Dell™ system

I suppose you sell a lot of items and can't get everything right. Can't please everyone all the time, I get it.

Would be nice to see some 2000 drivers, though.

Same problems here!

Windows XP Pro

Wireless keyboard that shows as a HID device under keyboards hardware tab.

Found out the keyboard and mouse are made by Logitech where they have some drivers that work better but still don't allow modification of the all the hotkeys like the music symbol button.  By the way the cd says if you press this button you will launch the sound mixer program?
