Dell Dimension 3000 Memoroy
Hello, I am seriously thinking of buying a new Dell Dimension 3000 PC. I was sorta confused on the memory part. I comes standard with 256 Single Channel Memory. But you can upgrade to 512 Dual Channel 400MHz DDR SDRAM memory. In the computer I have currently I have 2 256MB cards in my Dell Dimension 2400. Would the new computer come with 1 512 card in the first slot and then nothing in the second slot and could I purchase another card? would it have to be a 512 or could i use my 256 from my 2400? What kind of memory would I need to buy? I looked at Staples and found 512 DDR PC3200 would that work even though it did not say SDRAM after it? Thanks Matt

tbs010.
If you add a matching 512MB module to an exisiting 512MB, then you should get a total of 1024MB [1GB] of dual channel memory

DDR and dual channel have nothing to do with each other. DDR stands for D ouble Data Rate-Synchronous which is a type of SDRAM.

There is no such thing as dual channel memory. Computers that have dual channel capability, when equipped with matching sticks of memory, run in dual channel mode. If you don't have matching sticks, you cannot have dual channel mode functioning.
