Cisco IVR

Trying to configure tape devices in a vsan to see data movers.Do I need only the data movers to be in the IVR zone or do the fa's (I am getting disk from a DMX-3 )need to be there also?

you will need to be able to zone your tape drives to the dedicated hba on your datamovers, so you only need tape drives and HBAs in the zone.

Yes, the NAS basically has 3 types of "fibre" ports

1) Backend ports -> they connect to the storage

2) AUX ports -> they are for tape devices

3) Ethernet fibre -> for optical ethernet, if your data mover has them.

Do NOT zone the tape drives to the Backend ports! Only zone them to the Auxillary (AUX) ports!

Remember that when zoning, we recommend "single HBA zoning," so each individual zone should only contain one HBA. It can have multiple initiators (i.e. several tape drives), but only one HBA per zone.

Please run a server_devconfig server_X -probe -scsi -all. This is what the data mover is seeing out of its fibre ports

Do you see your tape library/tape drives listed anywhere? If not, the Celerra is not seeing them; you will need to fix the zoning.

If you see them, run server_devconfig server_X -create -scsi -all, which will add them to the Data Mover.

is zoning ok ? can you also run server_devconfig server_2 -c -s -a . I have seen sometimes where using "ALL" option does not rescan correctly.

DO I need to reboot the datamover for it to see the device?I have looked at the zoning multiple times and it looks fine.

I'm sure you already checked this too, but I'll ask to be thorough...HBA speeds set appropriately for the speed of the switch? It's always better to hard-code the speed rather than allowing it to auto-negotiate, because depending on the switch and firmware, sometimes it doesn't do that all that well. Instructions for setting the port to FC-SW and setting the link speed are in the "Configuring NDMP on Celerra" manual.

Also, is the port logging in to the switch correctly? If it's coming in as an FL port, you'll need to make sure that it's properly set to be a switched fabric port.
