Alienware 17 R2 2015 Power_State_Failure.

Hello,

I have recently (yesterday) received my new Alienware 17 R2 with GTX 980m and 180w. The first thing I have done was updating the drivers, windows updates, and bios from A01 to A04.

Within 24 hours, I have encountered 2 BSODS. Both with the error Power_State_Failure.

I was wondering if this could be due to a driver update or the bios update or the windows update.

Should I send it for replacement? Can the 240w fix such issue? Please help!

You can try performing a system restore to the moment before you make all the software changes, if after that the issue persists please let me know.

Well it is day #2 and I still have not encountered any blue screens. I am also using 240w AC adapter that I just received today.

I will keep update this thread everyday if any BSODs happen. Thanks.

Hi HUSKY, I´ve got the same driver_power_state_failure three times yesterday, playing Starcraft 2. I also got the 180W Adapter. Do you think the 240W solved your Problem, and did you buy it or was it Dell who provided it? (I7-4710, gtx980m)

Hi,

I don't know if the 240w AC adapter was the solution but I have updated some drivers, such as the Killer LAN/Wi-Fi from the manufacturer website. I did all windows updates, and updated other drivers. I don't know what was the solution.

It is day#5 and I still have not gotten any BSOD.

UPDATE: I just received the Power_State_Driver_Failure BSOD. I was running a benchmark in Metro Last Light Redux and then when i left and about to start the Unigine Vally benchmark, I got BSOD with Power_State_Driver_Failure.

I don't know if I should return the laptop or keep it and hope that the issue will fix itself.

Update #2: I have received another BSOD just 10 minutes after I have received yet another BSOD with the Driver_Power_State_Failure message.

I think I will return it. Really disappointed with Dell Alienware 17. I never expected to have such bad experience with it.

First, the BIOS must be updated. Second, I have to get 240w PSU. Third, I have BSODS?

NO THANKS I DONT WANT TO HAVE SUCH PROBLEMS ON A $2000 LAPTOP.

GOING TO GET THE ASUS G751JY.

This was my FIRST and LAST DELL product. BYE BYE.

Go to a different BIOS than A04 and try again. A04 is causing this with other users. If your using a 240W PSU, go use A00. You can downgrade safely, just run it and it will be fine.

If your on a 180W PSU, use A02.

I have the 240w from DELL as that's the first thing I did when I got the laptop.

I downgraded to A00 and will report back if I get any BSOD. If I got any, I will also return this laptop and never buy anything from DELL anymore!

You can try to uninstall and reinstall the latest touch pad driver as well the video card driver (you can use the one from the NVidia website) and on regards to the BIOS I will recommend you to use the A04.

Hello,

I have already returned the laptop to Newegg (Excellent customer service) and now waiting for a replacement. Let's hope the issue will not happen again With the replacement laptop.

Thanks.

PS: How can I unregister the old laptop from my account as I registered it once I got it to get the 240w AC adapter...
