At EMC we’re passionate about hybrid cloud solutions. Why? It’s pretty simple; our customers are. Customers are racing to deliver cloud solutions, private or hybrid, within their organizations. These solutions need to address mixed workloads including traditional enterprise workloads such as SAP, Oracle and Microsoft. Most recognize buying an engineered solution is the fastest way to get there, while also minimizing risk and lowering cost. Some have tried to build their own and in most cases have fallen short. That’s why we built the Federation Enterprise Hybrid Cloud on VCE infrastructure from EMC’s Converged Platforms Division and continue to deliver new enhancements. Today we’re announcing general availability of the 3.5 release with new features to speed the software delivery lifecycle along with more choice and scalability for even the most demanding workloads.
A hybrid cloud consumption model is about increasing agility and lowering the cost of IT services and application development through automation and on-demand self-service. Let’s have a look at some of the new features that do just that.
Reduce Operation Costs and Speed Application Delivery
With the 3.5 release, the focus is on helping customers increase agility and reduce their operational costs by speeding up the software delivery lifecycle with a new add-on option based on VMware vRealize Code Stream. This new add-on automates the software release pipeline for application development. By automating the tasks required to build, deploy and test at each stage in the release delivery pipeline, it enables continuous delivery, allowing application developers to push the latest enhancements fast and efficiently.
Co-Existence Architecture for OpenStack Environments
VMware Integrated OpenStack (VIO) is a VMware OpenStack distribution that makes it easier for IT to run a production-grade OpenStack-based deployment on their existing VMware infrastructure, leveraging VMware management tools they’re already familiar with. It co-exists with Enterprise Hybrid Cloud, both leveraging much of the same infrastructure, each running independently. VMware Integrated OpenStack functionality is designed to deliver continuous application development integration and deployment, so that the business can deliver new services as soon as code is ready on VMware vSphere and VMware Integrated OpenStack deployments as well as other OpenStack deployments.
Optimize Data Protection with Expanded Services
Customers appreciate the benefits of any point-in-time recovery services delivered by RecoverPoint which is why we’re now delivering it for the most business critical workloads including SAP, Oracle and Microsoft that run on EMC VMAXᶟ and EMC XtremIO arrays. And, because workload requirements can change over time, our data protection services can too. This release now gives customers the flexibility to add, remove or modify backup and disaster recovery services at any time – via the self-service catalog.
New Infrastructure Options and Increased Scalability
We’re always looking to update the solution with the latest hardware and software and the 3.5 release is no different. If customers want an all-flash array within the hybrid cloud for tier zero workloads, EMC now offers it with XtremIO 4.0 and will soon be supporting EMC VMAX All Flash arrays. With so many customers racing to deliver hybrid cloud solutions, VCE converged infrastructures offer the fastest and simplest path to get there. That’s why with the 3.5 release we’re now offering even more choice with the addition of VCE VxBlock Systems, and coming soon VCE VxRack Systems.
For customers running the most demanding workloads from Microsoft, Oracle and SAP, the 3.5 release
offers 2x more compute power and 4x more memory capacity with VMware vSphere 6. It also showcases new integration with third-party management tools, such as Puppet®, providing simplified automation management for provisioning application resources.
Hybrid Cloud is A Game Changer
Hybrid cloud is truly a game changer and a great enabler for business.
- It puts business users in the driver seat and makes heroes of the IT organization.
- With on-demand access, business users are unencumbered to innovate and respond to market demands.
- For legacy SAP Netweaver® and DBMS workloads, it’s an enabler for driving out cost associated with just keeping the lights on; and instead focuses investing in IT to run applications in the digital economy.
