Dell's transparency and reporting efforts were recognized Wednesday at the Ceres Conference in San Francisco. CERES and the ACCA presented Dell’s Tod Arbogast, our director of sustainable business, the Commendation for Emerging Issues Reporting award for leadership in identifying and addressing issues such as HIV/AIDS, mining and nanomaterials.
Dell’s sustainability report describes how issues like these affect our industry and the actions we’re taking to address them.
While this recognition is gratifying, Dell isn’t focused on sustainability for the awards. We’re focused on being a good corporate citizen and driving value for our customers and shareholders. Sustainable business is good business, and focusing on it helps us accomplish both of these goals. While we consider our corporate responsibility as part of our day-to-day business, there’s still a lot more to do. And it's nice to have an esteemed third party such as Ceres tell us we’re on the right track.
In truth, we owe much of this recognition to you, our customers. Through IdeaStorm, the Dell Community Forums and comments on our blogs — to name just a few channels– you tell us what you expect from a technology partner. We work hard to meet, even exceed, your high expectations.
Thank you for keeping the conversation going. We know that being a great company requires more than just minding the bottom line; it requires a commitment to the customers and communities we serve, to the planet we all call home and to high ethical standards. This is what we strive for every day, and we value your continued input.
